It's cool to hate on Phil Collins? Really, even now? Surely when he dominated the charts it was but he isn't even in the limelight now, (or is he?). I thought he faded into obscurity a long time ago and was geniunely amazed to see him topping any chart now. He's a titan of mediorcrity as a solo performer but he is/was an exceptional drummer - about the only thing going for him.

Very good gig. It was interesting in that the crowd seemed mostly middle aged-ish, no feather boas and eye liner anymore....

Hmm.. strange. Manics fans are getting old now, but even so, many of them still go with eye liner and sprayed shirts. It'd be strange if that crowd wasn't there any more, or stopped doing it. I'll look out for it on tuesday..

What was the setlist like? Any surprises?

    You can see it here.

Nothing particularly surprising, but they did a song from every album except Lifeblood, I enjoyed No Surface All Feeling, Golden Platitudes plus Jackie Collins Existential Question Time, shame they didn't do anymore from JfPL really as they didn't tour that in south Wales.

No duets though on the two duet songs, James sung both parts.

Just walked in my front room to see my parents watching this, had to do a double take when I saw it was Strictly Come Dancing. They really have let themselves go haven't they?... in more ways than one...

Yeah, the days of wearing IRA balaclavas on live TV are long gone, sadly. You can sort of understand it though, after everything they went through with Richey. And he really was the heart and soul of that group.

Catch a grip. Why wouldn't they play strictly? Massive audience for their new single which as Nick said is their last attempt at mass communication. Still the best homegrown rock band we have ever produced and the new album is a blinder. Can pretty much do no wrong in my eyes as long as the music is brilliant, and it still is :)

Heads up folks, intimate gig in Blackwood just about to start on Radio 2 (and video streaming on BBC Radio 2 online).

Yeah just watching it now. I applied for tickets to the gig, but I think they only gave 20% of them to people outside of Wales.

    Yep, odd choice!

I think they only gave 20% of tickets to people outside Blackwood (seriously!). The crowd is full of boring slapheads not moving much.

    Faster!!!

If I was in that audience, I'd be jumping around and pissing everyone around me off.

They're playing the isle of Wight festival this year, up against Kasabian would rather see Manics but rest of the main stage line up is pretty good so won't get to see much if I leave it late

Is he too scared to sing "I laughed when Lennon got shot" now or something?

They haven't sung that line for years, they were young and rebellious and now they're not.

When Ideal released Richey is Dead, the Manics complained. Ideal said "well you guys wrote a song laughing at Lennon's death, what's the difference?"

Hmm fair enough. Never known that bit of manics history tbh. Does he still avoid singing "I hurt myself to get pain out"?

    Yes.

Although he drops more lines every time I see them! But that one, yeah, it's understandable. Years ago they wouldn't even play Holy Bible songs. It's been a long road back.
