I can't see how people play mp so much. If you pick a 8 or 10 player mode you have only four maps, if you pick the 12 or 16 player modes you only have four maps.
I have played around fifty matches and bored to death of the maps. Should be more flexible, a map like longbow could have areas blocked off and used as 8 player modes etc.

Breaking up maps is a bad idea.

I've had enough of Halo 4 now. I'll be back when Spartan Ops starts again. Ta-ta!

    Gotta be Pioneer next, methinks.

Still need to do co-op Legendary (Lone Wolf just doesn't seem fun, I'll be honest).

Made my first clip for file share. Never bothered before. Remembered to do it for once.

So, file share isn't working yet. Hurry up 343.

    Currently playing through the campaign.

And honestly, I'm finding it a bit of a chore. I mean it's great and all, but it's just more of the same thus far. The levels might look different but I'm just getting a sense of deja vu. It's kind of boring.

The first half is, sadly. Second half's great though.

I also loved the first half :) Plenty of moments I really enjoyed, like single handedly repelling boarding parties, or those first steps on Requiem, or battling to switch off the "jammer", or battling Prometheans through the misty swamps. I even enjoyed the first time we got to pilot a Pelican without cheats, even if it was a wasted opportunity.

While 343 clearly felt the need to play it somewhat safe, and that being evident in the recreation of a lot of missions, I found there to be some utterly brilliant and original scenarios. And the rest I felt was still truly enjoyable, even if there was more than a hint of previous game missions.

I was expecting access on Waypoint like Bungie.net.

Lets you upload stuff in the game though.

I'm really enjoying the campaign on Legendary solo, makes each battle much more about pitched mind games and prioritising the right enemies.

I've been doing a mission a week to go with the challenges and I've just finshed Chapter 5. The only bit I've been stuck at for more than 3 retries so far was on Chapter 4 where you're supposed to hold off a Promethean onslaught with some marines while Cortana opens a door. Naturally all the marines were dead by that point on Legendary and trying to hold them off with a turret just doesn't work so I had to do some very creative hiding to get through that bit.

All the eurogamers who actually play with each other on xbl rather than just post pseudointellectual pc handwringing bollocks on the forums, love the shit out of biggy.

Really? I did it in two tries, making sure I picked the right turret and using bursts to ensure it doesn't overheat. If you're quick to aim it's relatively straight forward.

Fucking Mortadom! I've boarded a Wraith three times in one go, but was at the wrong angle to enter the gunner seat. Die. Next time, get in gunner seat, Wraith insta-blows up. Twice this happened!

Oh yeah, the whole wider file use is still not working, as far as I'm aware.

My issue with the first half is, it's visually great - but the battles are quite standard for the series, and not very epic. Then the second half has amazing parts like Composer, which is why I play Halo. The first half kinda ticks along, but the second half has set pieces in big sandboxes, and I love that.

I mean, the latter half has the Mammoth, a Pelican you can fly, the massive Mantis sandbox battle on a moon base, and that awesome Afterburner trench run. What's not to love?

Speaking of which, I'm hoping for some better vehicular action in Ops 2. A ride like Mission 5 or a repeat of that Composer sandbox would be great.

I need to retry Lone Wolf, as my first attempt was not long after my first finish and I was AWFUL. Like, stuck on the bit just after the Elite/2 Grunts/2 Jackals battle bad. Reach was a real slog that I eventually got through, and I just don't know if I can be bothered this time.

Bit of advice, turn on the Grunt birthday party skull. It really helps to know you've definitely got them. And just generally aim for headshots - Covie carbine and light rifle are your best friends.

How do you apply camo to your weapon? Or is it with a special/limited edition of the game?

I'm the opposite. Found first half except level 7 far better. All first 4 missions have excellent variety. Mission with mammoth is terrible. Just open areas with loads of enemy drops just boring design. Final level again pretty terrible, three repeating sections in a row.

The Limited Edition comes with one for the Assault Rifle, and every Specialisation has one each to unlock as you level. There are 2 Specialisations available to all right now so that should mean 2 weapon camos. Wetworks will unlock a DMR skins, and Operator will unlock a Magnum skin.

I definitely agree with this; I found the first half a lot more enjoyable. Mainly because the Covies are much more fun to fight than the Promos, and there's too much narrow corridor bullshit towards the end - particularly in the last two levels. I thought the Mantis was a fairly weak new vehicle, the 'Death Star run' at the end was pretty awful and there's far too much reliance during the whole game of either destroying two or three of something or plugging in Cortana so she can sort it out. The design and justification just felt a bit weak compared to Anniversary or Reach.

I'm not really sure any of the objectives, when actually looked at, have ever been any cop. It's always just push a button, run here, let Cortana do that. Ditto with most FPS, really - except Halo doesn't normally get you to kill a particular mob.

And, unlike COD, you can't win by letting the AI do it.

No, having played through every Halo, I found using the same tactics in the same sandboxes dull. Prometheans have new tactics and weapons, forcing you to adjust, where Elites are PP and headshot, Grunts headshot, Jackal hand then head, Hunters take off back armour and blast the worms. I even prefer the Promethean Ops missions.

Plus, Mantis is a skill vehicle; you can't go blazing in, you'll die.

Love fighting knights but the crawlers are v v v dull.

I like how the crawlers climb, though.

Halo 4 definitely has been caught between heritage and expectation, and so was a bit conservative/unimaginative in SP and MP.

But it's still a terrific game, and most other FPS gets away with fucking murder in comparison.
