Fascinating wrap-up piece at the bottom of this week's otherwise uninteresting bulletin: http://blogs.halo.xbox.com/Headlines/post/2012/10/03/The-Halo-Bulletin-10312-.aspx

    343i we salute you!

Countdown is my favourite map from Reach after the Cage!

Hemmorhoid can fuck off and die though.

I'll never get my Orc looking the same again.

We've had some brilliant ctf and bomb games on Trident, Utopie and Mount Lam Lam, hopefully a few more before H4 arrives.

I love how they're avoiding saying Abandon is a research base taken over by the Flood. I mean, that concept art sure makes it lovingly obvious that was the idea. It looks like a complete biome being absorbed into a Gravemind.

Speaking of said giant awful, they better explain more about the Flood this trilogy.

I'm just glad you do not work for 343 2 of the worst maps ever designed. neither fit Halo.

Nah, you just don't like them because you've only got long game with the sniper rifle and suck at close quarters. ;)

I'll never get my Orc looking the same again.

Both maps are ok but I much perfer maps like powerhouse, Highground, The pit. They are a lot more fun for 4v4 games.
  • Deleted user 4 October 2012 12:05:31
The Pit had BETTER be DLC.

maybe I'm not just double punch pro, that might be it. But in a FPS where one of the defining mechanics is movement, restricting players to a 2ft wide catwalk is not good level design.

Anchor 9, the one with the floaty bit in the middle, Sword Base. all great CQ maps.

I don't like Countdown much, but I've had some good games on The Cage.

    The Cage is diabolical.

It is bad, but I prefer it to Countdown.

I'd go so far as say the Cage is my worst Halo map ever. It's truly woeful.

For me Construct from Halo 3 would take some beating for the worst map ever. I really couldn't get on with it at all.

Halo 2 had the best set of maps BY FAR, imo. Discussing anything else is pointless. The only good maps now are remakes of Halo 2's, ffs!

Of course, I don't play much MP anymore...

Play it now then, if you want to catch up. You'll die a lot though as the people left are ninjas, most likely literally.

That's on PC, just in case you didn't realise. It works surprisingly well with Mouse & Keyboard.

I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi

@AdamAsunder pretty much all the reach maps were dire :(
  • Deleted user 5 October 2012 00:30:12
    Halo 3 maps > Halo 2.

    Easily.

Halo 2 had the best maps imo. Although I liked that green misty one on 3 (shit memory sorry)
Worst one on reach is boardwalk.

That was a good read, thanks.

I actually thought Boardwalk was one of the better maps.

    @revan8

Definitely the weaker suite of maps for sure, I really liked the DLC though which irks me greatly as I now will never get to play them.

The vanilla maps in 4 need to be great.

My rubbishness with the sniper rifle played a major part in my dislike for the map. A good sniper was allowed to dominate a bit too much, I thought. One good sniper on that map could ruin the enjoyment for everyone on the other team, who got sick of having to go considerably out of their way just to get at him, due to the annoying lack of access to the higher platforms. It needed air vents and handy ledges. That the sniper could even spot all incoming threats from way off and have plenty of time to kill or adjust is just bad design.

I like boardwalk. Killing off fools who congregate in that central room/balcony is too much fun. Grenades in, creep through the aftermath cloaked with boomstick in hand. Lovely.

The map I seem to do worst on I'd countdown, IDK why but I just get killed a lot there.

the new maps came up all the time last night no fucker ever picked them
  • Deleted user 5 October 2012 09:59:45
That is the apparent lunacy of Halo players!

"Yeaaaah, I'm going to fork out for all the new maps and when they come up I'm going to veto them to play on a grey community 'map' instead."

Boardwalk has plenty of underground paths to avoid snips, and a lower sniper also. I like the map, tbh. Didn't at first, but it's quite fun.
