I suppose the thing is... Football Weekly sounds like a radio show, and this is 'the bar' for podcasts these days. This sounds like some mates chatting into a mic, which is (as someone said above) a bit 2006.

Registered 8 years agoHey - sorry - I didn't hate it - I *did* listen; and will listen again. And it is completely unfair to compare it to Football Weekly... but it is also hard not to. I think that James Richardson is a very good (and very experienced) host, and usually it is NOT a discussion - just James interviewing the other presenters, one by one; and he knows exactly when to let someone continue, and when to cut them off. There are no embarrassing pauses, possibly because it is post-edited; and if anyone starts "err-ing" then James steps in and cleans-up, sweeper-style. Plus, I guess that it is very hard to sound good, when you don't sound good, if that makes any sense.

Registered 8 years agoI liked the more relaxed approach of this podcast compared the ones you did way back when. It does need a bit more structure, maybe a slightly larger crew and for everyone to sit a bit nearer the microphone. Perhaps record it last thing on a Friday with a few beers to hand!
I think it would be good to have the community submit questions that you go through and answer. -

Oh gosh - I had forgotten that - the old ones had dance music in the background didn't they!

@Fairground
Sadly, I'm no James Richardson but I hope my hosting will improve as we do more. As I've said elsewhere, the sound quality should be improved for next week.
@JetSet
I'm definitely up for that. If you have something you'd like addressed on the podcast then either PM me or email me at tomc at eurogamer dot net"sounds like a public school ponce"

There's a certain amount of microphone shyness to overcome.
Well except for Ellie of coarse

That was OK I thought - being rough and ready almost adds to the charm, but I must confess I don't listen to many (well, any) of these sorts of things usually so perhaps not the best judge.
Having a bit more of an idea of structure ahead of time, and perhaps smoother editing, would make it all flow better but I'd certainly be interested to listen from time to time - especially when the release calendar is a bit full with upcoming titles I want to hear about from the horses mouths without waiting for the reviews. -
I might have a go at a theme tune as well if I can find the time.
-
You should get Progguitarist to make you an epic experimental prog rock theme tune, btw.

Registered 8 years agoI honestly don't see what's wrong with calling it a podcast, what's the less itunes centric term?Ask me anything about Dungeon Keeper

It could do with a "bed", you know - quiet music in the background as it sounds far too empty at the moment.

I've never really liked music in the background on podcasts, but we'll try hard to get the quality up.

Good idea. We're running a bit low on prizes at the moment, we have a bit of a backlog, but should be able to root out something. At the very least it'll allow me to shift this copy of Digger Simulator that's been sitting on my desk for the last 6 months.Venatio wrote:

Registered 6 years agoHow can we get involved then? Is there gonna be a place on the site dedicated to posting questions for to be answered in the podcast? -
How would you want to be involved? We could split the podcast into 2 or 3 sections. One devoted to the guys talking about games and another where we respond to questions and comments from EG readers?
The podcast will evolve over time. We'll just need to try things to see what works and what doesn't.
Oh and you can PM or email at any time with suggestions, questions etc."sounds like a public school ponce"
