And if not why not? Gamespot's "The HotspoT" is hilarious, and I'd love to see something similar from the eurogamer peeps.

There are loads of gaming podcasts, though. I think 1up do one, probably some of the other mainstream sites do them too.

And there's the Arsecast supposedly once a month for the indie gamers out there.

They used to do one but they never really got into any sort of flow. EGs humour seems to work better in print than in audio because it just sounded heavily scripted in the podcast.

1up's has greatly improved now Mark MacDonald is a regular.

I listened to podcast 6 today (the last one) and it didn't sound scripted at all. The last five minutes were spent making jokes at Tom's expense after he used the word "bobbling" to describe how the ball moves in FIFA 2007.

Ellie's got a sexual harassment logbook?

Interesting Dragon Age/Mass Effect comparison going on here.

Sound quality isn't fantastic, a lot of echo going on, to be expected for a while at least, unless it's a proven attraction no point going all out on recording equipment and rooms.

Really not keen at all on 'upcoming reviews / previews'. It's not that interesting and will be covered on the site anyway, not much point dedicating time to discuss release dates of your own articles in the podcast I don't think.

I'd like more in depth conversation over certain subjects. Tendency so far to bring up news articles then just skip over them, either talk about them in more depth than you could on the site or ignore them.

If the show does get longer I suppose no harm in a quick news round up but I always prefer audio shows like this to be an inside look into stories / writers opinions on games that we just don't get to see given the confines of writing.

A little bit more structure then, just in what you're planning to say, rather than free styling it as you record perhaps just plan a couple of topics you want to cover in depth and give people a bit of time to prepare.

The idea of community involvement is good, not sure at all about reading out the 'best and worst' comments though, problem being it's much more work to try and find comments that don't just pop up through the karma system. Dangerous inviting people onto the show to discuss reviews with you. Not because they'll say necessarily embarrassing things but the sound quality will be woeful and it'd probably be fairly boring to listen to.

    Cheers Inquisitor.

Sound quality was our biggest concern, we were aware it was going to be fairly poor but we wanted to get it started. We have a plan and it should be better for next week.

Personally, I think we should have had more from the guys about the games they'd been playing and, as you say, maybe some chat about articles they'd put out this week.

We'll certainly have more structure in future. It'll take a few weeks before we're all settled into it.

I disagree with your last point. I think as long as we get people on who are able to come across and state their arguments confidently, then I think it could be good fun. Sound quality over Skype won't be that bad, certainly no worse than we currently sound.

    Podcasts are so 2006!

I used to be a gamer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee.

I think it'll be great. I get the impression from some people on here that they'd come across quite well, having well-formed views on certain things. I'd certainly like to hear the likes of Blerk, Lutz, PJMaybe, DDevil and some of the development crowd who sometimes post here.

Those that don't come across well.. may have to get new IDs. :D

I was a bit disappointed. Things like Guardian Football Weekly have set they bar VERY high. I'll add it to iTunes, when they get that going, and I'll give it a second chance, for sure, but...

Sorry you didn't like it, chief.

    Any specific feedback?

    Scary! :-o

I'd agree with Inquisitor entirely on it needing 'structure' more than anything else. Take charge, Venatio! Make a plan, stick to the plan, and reel the slackers in! :-D

    /waits for next week

It's a competitive arena but you can't expect instant greatness, rare indeed that something like this starts brilliantly.

You're right Ven, given the right guests it could make for an intriguing listen just from my experience of other podcasts it's not that often that a member of the community can move from intelligent posts to intelligent discussion with the staff.

    Surely they'll fit right in!

How about doing the podcast live and have us submitting questions and comments as with some of live dev interviews? Might be hard to do technically, I donnow.
