A lot of the chefs I worked with were either scruffy, sweaty, drunkards or just didn't care any more. Obviously, I never worked in a Michelin-starred restaurant or anything like that.

But seeing the state of a lot of them did make we want to get out of the industry before I got stuck in it.

Also, Nigella wouldn't last half an hour during a busy service in a proper restaurant/banquet hall kitchen.

There's a fundamental difference between a chef and a cook.

I love cooking, and I potter round in the kitchen for hours, using all the pans and generally making a mess (and, I hope), nice food.

But as BM says about Nigella, I wouldn't last 5 mins in a real kitchen.

I think Nigella (along with just about all these TV celebs) is a cook, not a chef.

She's definitely just a cook, not a chef. But her knife skills have me almost shouting at the telly. Why doesn't she just do a basic course? She constantly looks like she's about to hack into her hands.

There are a lot of actual chefs that have TV shows though. Much as I hate the guy, you really have to respect Ramsey. Similarly, James Martin, Brian Turner, Jamie Oliver, Wozza-Thompson et al have had incredibly successful professional careers.

I'm watching this on BBC 1 now. It's really annoying: "tumble" potatoes into a roasting dish? Red onions make her feel more "partified"? She has fairy lights in her fucking larder - WTF? She seems like she's a bit thick TBF. Painful to listen to but not to look at.

Are you trying to tell me, in all honesty, you have never even considered getting naked and fucking the pillows/arm of the over-stuffed couch in the lounge on a boring sunday afternoon?

:-D it was a very nice couch though. God the last season of Nip/Tuck was mental, possibly more so than past seasons.

You are a factory of sadness.

The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin' That's what I said. The looser the waistband, the deeper the quicksand. Or so I have read.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Marmite and pasta? Looked pretty good actually, I'll have to try it.

You cook a spoon of marmite with butter, put some water in, then put the stuff over pasta.

My missus loves Nigella, so wasn't particularly amused when I pointed out that:

    a) this recipe was one of the most basic and lazy I've ever seen on telly
    b) not even her recipe

Smacks of needing to fill a 5 minute slot.

When you can't see the angles on the wall you're in trouble.

I made spaghetti & marmite when I was a student and they were the only things I had left in the cupboard. It was vile!

Great stuff. I'd seen the Jamie Oliver one and the Delia (smelling of France) one before. This might be better!
