Hi there, my birthday today - purchasing a Wii and wasn't sure which combo of games to go for not having owned a Nintendo since the 64.

Enjoy first person shooter / roleplay and football games but also looking for entertaining party games when hosting a few mates?

Gamestation do 4 games with the wii for £259.99 - what choices would you advise....

Any help would be great - cheers!

RE4, Excite Truck, Mercury and Zelda:TP. Well, that's what I'd go for if I ever got around to getting a Wii.

Kororinpa is the best Wii game so get that.

And WarioWare: Smooth Moves, RE4: Wii Edition, Eledees and perhaps give the two early (flawed) gems, Rayman and Red Steel a try too.

But you will probably be having too much fun with Wii Sports to care about the other games just yet.

    The games I'd recommend are:

    Zelda: Twilight Princess
    Resident Evil 4
Excite Truck or Mario Strikers: Charged (depending on whether you prefer racing or footy)
Wii Play (for the bundled extra controller)

If you like puzzlers, Mercury Meltdown Revolution is also worth a look.

That being the case I wouldn't really recommend a Wii! (FPS,RPG,Football)

Zelda, obviously. Also, I quite enjoyed The Godfather, if you're looking for a decent crime game.

Also, if you haven't played any of the Gamecube titles, I suggest you pick some of them up too. After all, they're as cheap as chips, and some of them are superb.

Resident Evil 4 is a must if you havn't already played the gamecube or ps2 versions. Zelda : Twilight Princess is also excellent as has been mentioned. Trauma Center is well worth a look aswell I hear.

Wii sports comes with the Wii though and is just fantastic if you've got people to regularly play against. Still playing my mates at bowling and tennis months after having gotten it.

Zelda, Trauma Centre, RE4 and Warioware.

Actually, just buy the two I recommended and wait for Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 :p

Cheers - lots to choose from then !!

Zelda and RE4 sold - Still to decide on two more. Rayman possibly for multiplayer gaming? Mario football game most probably. Leaves one ????

I would avoid Rayman Raving Rabbids like the plague! Very basic game with little to no game options.

If you're after a similarly enjoyable minigames title, Warioware is probably your best bet, although the full multiplayer options do not open up until you have clocked the single player. Unfortunately for your mates, that puts you, as the owner, at a slight advantage...

Mario Smash Football is a decent title. The multiplayer will keep you and your mates occupied for a while. The perfect "one more go..." title. Online is pretty good too, which supports co-op playing with two people on one console.

    Good luck!

Don't bother with Rayman, Wii sports will see you ok. If you want another wiimote get Wii play, shite but cheap.

Get Mario Smash Football and Excite Truck with Zelda and RE4 for the best of the Wii.

Of course if you wait a few weeks the best games will be very different. Don't forget the GC compatability too.

Agreed, stay away from Rayman and Red Steel.

Excite Truck, Mario Soccer and Mercury Meltdown are the ones to go for except for the obvious (Zelda and RE4).
If you want a FPS, get Call of duty 3, it has much better controls than Red Steel (although the PAL version has a terrible bug that makes the game crawl).

Here's a list of must-haves on the Wii:

Sorry, that was cheap and easy but felt good all the same. Just like those young tarts on any Friday night.

You are such an unfunny arse these days...

Yeah, as opposed to your hilariously entertaining self, eh?

It might have been funny the very first time we heard it, but I've heard that joke, and three or four variations thereof at least a hundred times a piece on EG. It's über fucking boring now. Also, having a Wii has no bearing on how boring it has become. Mix it up LeD, for Chirst's sake.
  • Deleted user 4 September 2007 16:23:52
That he does unfortunately I skip it over most of what is written, so even tho I have heard the joke before (for PS3 as well) probably not as much as you guys. Having said originality wouldn't go a miss

Resident Evil 4, Warioware Smooth Moves, Rayman Ravin' Rabbids, Mortal Kombat Armageddon and Tiger Woods are all pretty decent games to start off your Wii collection.
