All down to how filtered your newsfeed is I guess!

    So yeah, "This".
Original? Saw a spoof on my Facebook over a month ago. Shit imitations since then.

I just liked his general appearance of sincerity.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

A lot longer than that. I saw quite a few and I haven't signed in for over three months.

Ten years ago? That's nothing, I saw guys in the street holding signs made out if cardboard back when I was a kid.

Is there a way to have a anonymous FB account? I just want to look at people's stuff. I have absolutely no interest in interacting with anyone in any conceivable way.

Well, maybe 1 or 2 people who I already know, but that's literally it.

So my Auntie broke her ankle yesterday, my dad has left this on her Facebook wall...

Sorry to hear that you have had a bad accident and that it has upset all your immediate plans. Hope the operation goes well and that you are soon recovered. Only wish we could have been of help. L.O.L.
    LOL indeed.

The problem with an anonymous account is that no-one who knows you will add you unless you tell them who you are, which sort of defeats the point.

Then again, there are people who view friend count as some sort of badge of honour, so maybe you'll get lucky.

@meme - I can't even look at some business pages w/o an account, though. There are only a couple I have in mind, it's just a pain I can't view them without a stupid account. You can only view certain things.

I'd inform anyone if I wanted to be friends via real life interaction.

Just set up a fake account, and use that. Gremmi might have a spare one for you.

Has anyone noticed adverts are now embedded in peoples' profiles? Nnow my profile looks like Im promoting random products. Facebook has become a cluttered mess.

I think there might actually be a gap in the market now for a stream lined focused social network site without all of Facebook's cuntary

Why does it have to be anonymous? This is basically what I do.

It just seems like once one person sees you, 6 degrees of separation means pretty much the whole world does.

I want to be unseen. A shadow in the night.

I don't understand FB either, so I'm probably exaggerating. I've heard stories, though. Unpleasant stories.

These 'My wife said if I get 1,000,000 likes, that I..' can all fuck off now.
    It's overrun with the things.

It also has its benefits though. I lost my wallet in town a couple of months ago and some bloke picked it up and found me after searching for me on there. A minor success story for keeping a small amount of info public.

I just went on to FB and it had logged me out. It then told me I had had a comment removed because it violated FBs Statements of Rights and Responsibilities.

Do they do this on request of the person whose page it is?

I mainly use it to abuse local councillors, and he had accused me of sectarianism, so I was politely replying to him- nothing controversial!

Deleted (or so they make me believe) my account half a year ago. Freed up lots of time lurking on EG.

I hate it too, but it's good as a community campaign tool. Our local paper is under the thrall of the council, the national papers won't publish a bad story about it (the editors children go to a local school on a placing request...), so for me it's the best medium to get the real news out to a lot of people.

I can't fucking stand the new fad of airing your problems with companies/politicians directly at their respective facebook pages. Everyone is doing it. Whether it is because the bottle of coke you bought from Tesco wasn't fizzy enough or your local council burned down your farm. Half my facebook feed is now people liking these posts and sharing their outrage.

The problem is though, as annoying as it is. I can't really fault it. It is the purest form of democratic expression we have and the way these things go viral - even if contained to a small area - there is simply no better way to get someone's/something's attention. So I hate them but damn are they important.
