    Yes it is rather excellent.

    Can you make it play several clips in order or does it only do one at a time?

    Last time I tried it only played one.

    It's good. It's free. You can screen grab.

    Although it is slightly tempremental.

    VLC = \o/

    Plays any format you throw at it. Even.lhf. And I just made that one up.

    Eh.. VLC is not that great. GOM player is a much better media player, VLC is alright, it's good for a few files that nothing else seems to handle, and it plays Quicktime files better than Quicktime itself. I like to have it as an alternative, but I'd never use it as my main media player.

    o_O What sort of video files are you trying to play? I have never EVER had GOM player crash on me, even if it doesn't have the codec, it'll just report that it doesn't have it. Although it is like VLC in that most main codecs are embedded in the player itself. The shortcuts are what makes it, enter for full screen, ctrl-enter for fit to screen, space for pause, F8 for playlist, plus it's really lightweight. I also use the close player on finish and fit to screen options, and it also has burst screenshot mode for making animated gifs of videos. By far the best video player out there.

    I prefer Media Player Classic, personally. VLC has never worked properly on my main system either. Playing most videos just results in coloured bars instead of the actual video (sound works fine).

    Nothing to do with playing the file - just opening it. I went to:

    Open file -> My Videos -> South Park

    ...to test it and it crashed each time.

    Very strange. I just opened directory and preloaded basically every video I have in to the playlist. The easy browser (ctrl+I) is also quite nice.

    I would like those for XP, too.

    I use MPC most of the time (better handling, better fullscreen controls), and VLC for the really dodgy stuff. because it simply plays anything. Good combination.

    From my experience VLC is more stable on OSX and has the full-screen controls so it's all I use and will ever need. I just like the fact it handles ANY video format you throw at it flawlessly and that you can alter the aspect ratio of videos to fill your screen (like 4:3 to 16:10).

    Altering native aspect ratios makes baby Jesus Cry. :(

    So people say, but for some reason I'm unable to notice much distortion so it doesn't bother me at all. It just means more screen real-estate is used.

    Depends what you're watching really. Scrubs looks fine when stretched to widescreen, but some things look terrible.

    I use Media Player Classic as well, mainly for .flv files. VLC plays them much better though which is why I'm so glad I discovered it. Only problem though is it's not seeking properly. When I click ahead on the seek bar it goes to the next video and it doesn't seek back smoothly.

    * Bumps for a survey *

    How many people would actually use the "set movie as wallpaper option"?

    I've used it a couple of times, for laughs.

    Music videos look pretty cool on it.
