AI still needs tons of work, ship battles need even more work really.

I guess so with the AI.It's the atmosphere that has me hooked.
I don't bother with the ship battles, was saving that for a GB campaign.

What campaign difficulty do you play on?I'm a normal* guy.

It just irks me that the ship battles seem to run really bloody slow and you have to micromanage everything because if you set one ship to attack another he just wiggles about a bit then gives up and sails into the sunset.

heh, going to look into the ship battles tonight after reading up on the Barbary wars at work.

The diplomacy is far from perfect also.

Ship battles are still auto resolve for me; it's just not very enjoyable. The most recent patch made the diplomacy quite a bit better I thought, although I don't think it's ever going to be infallible.

I keep watching Pirates of the Caribbean and hoping for awesome maelstrom side to side kill fests in Empire. I get wiggly boats instead.

I know it's not very realistic, but I kind of wish they'd get rid of the wind even just a tiny bit. Trying to sail into the wind is pointless, and I simply don't have the patience to manually tack my ships.

Naval battles have been rather stupid since 1.5/1.4
They nerfed ships of the line crazily and made pretty much any ships above 5th rate pointless to buy; what with price, the extra range, accuracy and reload skill. Really bizarre, terrible design decision.

There's still so much broken and strange, but it still manages to be an immense, enjoyable game. Not sure I'm going to bother with Napoleon on the back of the broken Empire though.

Yeah, a heavy first rate costs the same as a small land army, it probably should be able to fuck over anything that gets in its way. Instead you get an enormous damage soak that can't hit anything further than point blank.

Land battles are arguably worse: the AI is pathetic most of the time, especially in siege situations. That's right lads, sally forth in a broken scrum, wander into canister shot, rout and then repeat until you've no troops left.

Have they made the game good yet though?

I'd forgotten about that! It'll be interesting to see how it works.

    Great game!

Mental. You mean you don't just try to conquer all around you regardless of the concequences and hence compeltely overstretch yourself?

I'm toying with picking this up on Steam today. Has it reached a state of relative maturity now they've had time to patch it up?

I'm hoping someone can answer that too. It is patched to 1.6, so I am thinking there was enough pressure on the devs to have it sorted by this final update.

I've got E:TW in my cupboard since forever, and only wanted to play it now that I bought the 'E:TW Downloadable Content Collection' - it's the Warpath Campaign that interests me only.

It is 29.99 on Steam, I'm sure you can get that cheaper from elsewhere, although I think you need Steam to have the game installed/activated.
