Enjoying wasp loads recently. Loving some of the more recent albums, I know they (Blackie) recycle some bits but when there that good, and the man writes a chorus like no other

Sabbath were more metal with Dio. The 80s rock was the Tony Martin stuff. But that was great too. IMHO obviously.

Finally got round to checking out Slayer's "World Painted Blood" - it's easily their best album since "Divine Intervention". One or two stinkers ('Americon', 'Playing With Dolls'), but it's a decent Slayer record. Plenty of zip to it.

Picked up Kreator - Dying Alive this morning and its brilliant. Probably the best live album since Live Kreation. I don't know how they do it by Kreator live albums are head and shoulders above the rest. An amazing set list with perfect production.

Haven't heard that in years (not an Anthrax fan, one of the most overrated bands out there IMO).

I know they are not really a metal band anymore, but anyone heard Universal from Anathema? I picked it up yesterday just watching the DVD absolutely wonderful.

Yes I got the blu-ray/CD fan-pack version when it came out. Absolutely fabulous stuff.

An old girlfriend of mine was really into W.A.S.P. and I loved their eighties stuff.

Didn't realise Blackie had done a Nicko. At least Nicko, gentleman that he is, seems to have the good grace to keep it private.

SPLIT YOUR LUNGS WITH BLOOD AND THUNDEEER!

Mastodon would be better with Scott Kelly on permanent vocal duty.

So, er, Joey Jordison quit Slipknot...

The D were awesome last week, Sabbath were also excellent. I was really ill at both concerts though so it somewhat ruined them. My friend thought Sabbath was one of the best gigs ever. The music was better at Sabbath but I preferred the D due to age and Sabbath being a bit oap on stage compared to the D. The crowd was better at the D as well but the o2 arena will always be worse as large venues don't get that same atmosphere.
Both set lists were excellent covering most of their respective hits.
Damn jack black got a good voice.

Highlights...rize of the fenix, kickapoo, double team.
    Into the void, n.i.b., snowblind.

The band I've seen about a million times without ever wanting to. They seem to always be at every festival ever.

Maybe they'll call it a day.

That was Neil Fallon of Clutch doing the vocals on Blood and Thunder! I agree with your point though :D

Happy frosty weather and winter solstice (plus 1), fuckers!

    @FuzzyDuck

Oops! Well they should have Neil Fallon on permanent vocal duty then. Pretty sure Scott Kelly would be a good choice too. I'm just fed up of the weird whiny vocal thing they do. It isn't just "not as good as it could be" it actively makes the music worse and sometimes even ruins it.

Having much appreciation for High on Fire this morning.

Yep, loved Mastodon since the first album, but I've always been frustrated at their lack of proper vocalist. Scott Kelly is partially responsible for my favourite bit in their entire catalogue - the verse he does on Aqua Dementia that starts "And God will watch it burn..."

Say, that's actually one of my two favourite HoF tunes (the other one coming directly after it, Brother In The Wind. I lost track of them after Death Is This Communion, are the albums after that up to much?

@FuzzyDuck I really liked the next album after that, Snakes for the Divine, especially the title track with its widdly intro. I think a lot of people found the production too clean though. The latest one I need to give a try, haven't listened to it at all.

I love the guitar solo on Face of Oblivion, proper shivers down your spine "fuck yeah" moment that.

New iced earth on spotify. Loving it! I hated Dystopia to begin, I think I was missing Barlow. All is forgotten, Stu Block is great, Dystopia is easily my most listened to album of 2013 and this one is instantly fantastic!

    Anyone seeing them in Birmingham?

Loved Dystopia and can't wait to see them in London in a few weeks. Wanted to see them for years. Was disappointed with the title track that was released. Seemed a bit slow and ploddy. Is the rest of the album better?

It's similar to dystopia really, good mix of pace and slow. That title track is so catchy after a few spins trust me it'll lodge in your head. Stu block is amazing on this album.

So is there a better metal album than Blackwater Park?

Probably, but it's a fuckin peach of an album.
