Oh, and how can I forget the new Inquisition, which is utterly fantastic. One of my albums of the year for sure!|

Call it 'hipster' metal or whatever you wish, but Deafheaven and Russian Circles have released two of my favourite albums this year in Sunbather and Memorial.
I'm not the biggest metal fan (my collection goes pretty much as far as Mastodon and Baroness) but these two albums are absolute corkers.
That's the beauty of metal (indeed, the beauty of all music) - there's enough depth and breadth to a lot of the genres there's something for everyone! And while I haven't heard the new Russian Circles, that Deafhaven album is indeed a cracker
Anyone heard this yet?

Syrette wrote:Listen to some Red Fang, that'll fix you up. There's a few newish albums kicking about that are pretty good, actually - maybe abandon the Sumerian stuff for a bit? They seem to be a bit of a curse as all the bands end up sounding samey.
Starting to get really, really bored of modern metal. The scene is so stagnant. Just a decade ago I was getting into new bands every other week. It's not that I like metal less than I used to, there's just fuck all in the way of freshness out there.

FatsoJetson wrote:I have a few of those on my Bandcamp account as well. The Prosanctus Inferi, Oranssi Pazuzu, Vastum & Bolzer are especially good. Will check out the other ones you mention as well. Also, for me:
@Syrette Hmm. I'm the compete opposite. I'm spending too much money on new bands at the moment. In the past few months there's been some amazing releases:
Prosanctus Inferi - Noctambulous Jaws of Sempiternal Night
Oranssi Pazuzu - Valonielu
Vastum - Patricidal Lust
Toxic Holocaust - Chemistry of Consciousness
Lumbar - The First and Last Days of Unwelcome
Dead in the Dirt - The Blind Hole
Bolzer - Aura
Beyond - Fatal Power of Death
Puig Destroyer - self-titled EP
Axeslasher - Anthology of Terror Vol.1
To name but a few. Not sure how fresh the sounds are, but I think they're all really exciting examples of modern metal.
Cult Of Fire - मृत्यु का तापसी अनुध्यान
Cultus des Ghoules - Henbane
Thou Art Lord - The Regal Pulse of Lucifer
A.M.S.G - Anti Cosmic Tyranny
Antediluvian - Logos
Arfsynd - Hesychia
Chaos Invocation - Black Mirror Hours
Christicide - Upheaval of the Soul
Clandestine Blaze - Harmony of Struggle
Monte Penumbra - Heirloom of Sullen Fall
VHOL - Vhol
I am going to stop now. Point is there has been may great releases this year!
I have bought around 250 albums on Bandcamp this year on top of all the physical media (CD/LP/Tapes) as well. Don't even want to calculate how much I have spent on music over the year. Thank fuck for Spotify otherwise I might be broke!

Trent Reznor Facetimes with a dying fan who only has weeks to live and couldn't make the concert due to his ill health.
Hear the audience chanting the dying fans name.
Little instrumental section teaser for you all

That links to an IGN article about borked Onsies, you crazy foo'!
Edit - perhaps I was a little slow to get the joke, carry on!

@FuzzyDuck lol dafuq? I'll change it.
I thought you were trolling by linking to noisy Onesie disk drives!
Nice (as usual!). Would you touch the keys often? Been listening to a lot of Tony MacAlpine today (just have "Maximum Security") and your guitar lick sounded sweet.
It doesn't understand what "top albums" are either.

Ridiculously good new After the Burial
OMG OMG OMG! BLACK SABBATH IN 9 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!
Can not wait, going to be amazing. My favourite band of all time.
Seeing the D same week as well.
Might go see Watain later this week. Reckon it's worth it?
Sonisphere headliners announced at 5:30*
*may not be metal
Just to confirm. That's a "yes" Watain, worth it....
I quite like em on record, last album was good. I do hear the live show is quite smelly though.
Yes it's a yes for Watain
I haven't actually seen them live but it looks like a good show. Probably best not wear your favourite clothes though!

@Choppi Nice, here they're actually decent enough live.
What's your fave Sabs album?
@FuzzyDuck love all of the first four, drops off after that sadly with only the odd classic. Think either master of reality or paranoid. Their new album as actually good as well if you haven't heard it.
I think I'm going to explode from excitment soon.
I'd stretch my Sabbath love to the first 5, but totally agree that it drops off in a big way after those.
Also my favourite two albums there! Hand Of Doom being my favourite tune of theirs, no contest. There's been so much good new stuff around of late that I haven't heard "13", but it's on the to do list.
Always an immense buzz seeing one of your favourite bands, I had to skip Death To All last week because of other commitments, gutted!
Got the new Sabbath blu-ray this week. It's not very good. Ozzy is pretty useless and I've read from those who were at the gig the edit is actually flattering him. Tony & Geezer were doing a great job as usual, didn't find the drumming very interesting.
Compared to the two Heaven & Hell videos released over the couple of years before the sad death of Dio it's a pretty poor offering. Ironically they would have been a more fitting end to the Sabbath story than this latest disk.
That said, I did like the 13 album.
Fuck that. Dio Sabbath was exceeding gash 80s rock compared to late 60s early 70s Sabbath......personal preferences n all.

Blatant plug for my pretend journalism/getting to meet bands I want to. Lawnmower Deth interviewed at HRH, irreverence, Jason Donovan and Biff Byford's singing teeth.
My interview with the Great Man, Arthur Brown should also be floating about soon.
