How are they still around? Who is keeping them going!? I remember seeing them at Bloodstock when they first started and thinking they were the most uninspired generic crap I'd heard. And I love power metal.

Edit: Hah! Just checked their metal archives page and apparently this was their last show as they split up.
Aww, their lead singer Colin is a mate of mine! He got me into Kreator and Suffocation back in the day.

Slayer (or what's left of them) were dead good, but had a bit of a subdued exit. They had a cool Jeff banner. One thing that made me smile was that Kerry's guitar was much quieter than Jeff's stand-in (who was shithot BTW) was.
Is Gary Holt of Exodus still standing in?

    According to Wikipedia, yes.

    @FuzzyDuck

I'm sure he's a great guy, and I'm never actually happy about a band splitting up as I'm sure they had their fans. But as a huge power metal fan, they did nothing for me.

Bossk were at their best in the bits where they were doing instrumental pieces. To begin with the vocalist was a bit uninspiring. But they did a section where he was screaming, from a distance into the mic, with quite a bit of echo added. Which was atmospheric enough to suit their music and didn't overpower the instrumental parts.

And for people talking about it. Yes, Gary Holt played with Slayer yesterday.

Not to worry, they're not exactly my cup of tea to be honest!

    Just a bummer they've split.

So the new Gorguts record has made its way "into the wild", and in response, the band have put it up on iTunes.

Nice to see a band being realistic about how this stuff seems to work (as in they're saying "look, people want this and it's ages away, so here's a legal download". Waiting on the CD myself).
Just downloaded, the sound of that bass is incredible!

Yeah I couldn't resist and downaloaded it myself (still buying it when it comes out though, might get the CD + tshirt pack) and the bass is indeed amazing sounding!

It's a really natural sounding album with good dynamic range, so despite it sounding like the end of the world in places, it's actually pretty easy one the ear.

Another big +1 for the new Gorguts album, loving it! Organic, refined chaos if that makes sense?! Even like the classical interlude mid album although it is a tad out of place.

Here is something I have been listening to this morning. Some melodic death/doom that, considering as well that it is a debut album, is really excellent.

Oh, you can download it for free from their Bandcamp page. Or listen to it on Spotify for it is there as well.

Work in progress intro to the 3rd song on my upcoming album :)

Thought I'd post for all the people who contributed to my new recording machine.

Oh, and all you "regular" people too. :p

Death To All tour is hitting Europe, and (importantly for me!) it's also hitting Dublin, with Obscura supporting!

And the lineup will be 3/4 of Cynic (obviously Masvidal and Reinert, with Max Phelps will be taking Chuck's spot), while Steve DiGiorgio is handling bass.

I can die a happy man after seeing this happen!

    Yep, 26/11 at The Forum.

It popped up on my Facebook feed for the promoter, and Obscura's FB page was also updated with the poster.

Bit late to the party here but Bloodstock 2013.

Initially I found it incredibly difficult to muster much excitement but....it was crackin.

    my top acts:

Dying Fetus (I've seen some heavy shit in my time, but holy fuck)
    Anthrax
    Gojira
    Municipal Waste
WhiteChapel (sorry Guys, they were great)

    The suprise:

Hell - I had not heard these before and went to check them out for something to do, stayed front row, mesmerised the whole show. absolutely fantastic band!

The Worst: Ex Deo - Bored me rigid.

    Till next year!!

Yeah I caught Dying Fetus live in 2005 supporting Nile and they were heavy as fuck alright.

Necrophagist were supposed to be on the bill that night too but someone in the band couldn't get into the country, made me a sad panda.

Edit - Hell are indeed the business!

I've seen Dying Fetus 3-4 times now but the show at BOA was something else. the new material IMO is the best they have ever written.

Lamb of God! I flew to Amsterdam to see them just over a week ago, absolutley fantastic, Municipal Waste are always great.

I'm actually in need of some new Metal bands to listen to. (Not Nu-Metal)

    :p

Any ideas, I like groove and thrash mainly, ok with metalcore, and dont mind progressive death metal (but nothing with strings or orchestras).

Wow, I did not see this coming... Mike Portnoy's post-Dream Theatre jaunt is a hard rock trio with Richie Kotzen and Billy Sheehan, and it's excellent. Some straight forward (for these lads anyway, there's still some instrumental wizardry here and there), catchy-as-fuck shit!

It ain't very metal, but figured in here was still the best place to put it.

Really enjoying Torche's "new" album. Seems to have taken a bit of a kicking from some reviewers and no doubt it is fairly commercial music they are producing now, but it's so fucking catchy.

Need recommendations. In a bit of a sad mood recently so I've been listening to some kick ass stuff to get me out of it.

So far it's mainly been Pantera, Tool and Death.

Evile's Ol Drake has quit the band.

Bummer, he's done some tasty lead work with them. He gives good reasons here though, and respect to the man for them.

Only got round to checking out Napalm Death's 'Utilitarian' this weekend and fuck me, it's blistering.

They sound like a band in their prime, not one pumping out albums for 2.5 decades. It even has a John Zorn freak out on it.

Machine Head - Clenching the Fists of Dissent

Not a bad track if you like Pantera, and want something to kick the crap out of you?

    Ol' Drake has left!?
    No way. Evile rawk!
