Yeah, I really need to find some patience from somewhere and practice programming drums. So... lazy...

It's fun. Plus tracks like the metal and master exploder have sick riffs.
I think we have a difference of opinion on what constitutes a "sick" riff.

I quite like 'em overall, though.
Admittedly their latest album is very average but the first album is great. Anyone who doesn't like double team is just weird.

I've been working on this for a couple of hours with some new tone settings. I'm so into it, I can't tell if I like the guitar tone or not. Any metal heads care to give a listen and comment?

    It's about 2 mins long.
    For the new page.

@Progguitarist Cool beans man, love your stuff.

There's a bit of banter about these lads over on Metal Ireland. Apparently just a two piece from Switzerland, they've a really atmospheric take on old school death/black.

    Really digging them.

    Edit - they're called Bolzer.

I didn't like Brutal Doom/Hexen a lot. It's nice for one minute, but after that, I resorted to playing regular Doom/Hexen again. Those games are just perfect the way they are.

A punk band called Death from the early 70's that didn't really make it that big is making it quite big after all these years, I've had a good listen and it's fucking sublime.

    Full album:

Has anyone here ever heard of them?

The thing is the band made this album in 1971, that's 3 years before punk hit the big time so they're visionaries really, well ahead of their time.

I think it sounds as fresh today.

That's nuts, it could have been recorded last week. Internet says it was recorded in '74 though, so that would be after Raw Power etc. Internet might be wrong though?

Politicians In My Eyes (about 20:00) is ace.

Sorry my apologise they formed in 71, you're right they did record those songs in 74, still awesome though.

Yeah. The same guys minus Byron on vocals have a similar side-project called Kull with the guitarist of one of the bands I'm in on vocals.

Kull on Facebook - I think there are early track(s) on there, sounding really good so far.

@DrStrangelove In case you didn't see - what is effectively Bal-Sagoth's second coming, I guess: Kull

Thought I would share a friend on mine's work:

    http://thesequenceofprime.bandcamp.com/

Really intense grind mixed with thrash and death elements. Conceptually the album is about black holes and entities within through the looking glass of science and math. Really great stuff and really recommended. Oh, and all the music, artwork, lyrics is done by the sole guy, Brandon. And, did I mention you can get it for free. Yup, just choose 0 when you click on Buy now. Or pay of course if you think it is worth it! It is on Spotify as well for those that way inclined.

On a totally unrelated note, The Flenser records has released their latest split off Vestiges and Panopticon for free. Well, you have to give your email address which will be added to their mailing list, but I can assure you they will not spam you. And they release great stuff, so worth following anyway. So, grab it here:

    http://theflenser.bandcamp.com/album/vestiges-panopticon

Not listened to Vestiges really yet, but Panopticon is always good and worth checking out by anyone into Black Metal.

I know there is a Black Metal thread but I really don't see the point of a lot of disparate metal threads

@BeheretiK Thanks for the linkage (as always!), I'll give them a whirl when I have time in a few days.

Exivious have just released a track from their second album 'Liminal', and it drips atmosphere. Really technical music, but played with passion (and a jumbo Allan Holdsworth influence), I cannot wait to get my hands on the new record.

@FuzzyDuck No worries, hope you enjoy the links!

Not heard Exivious before. Quite like this. Nice fusion of jazz and metal with some progressive tinges as well. Are all their stuff instrumental only (as with the track you linked) cause I think that suits the music - not sure what vocals I imagine going well with that to be honest. Will check out the first album on Spotify. Thanks!

    @BeheretiK Thanks!

As far as I'm aware all that exists is the debut album (which was self released, had to buy it through the band's website directly) and that's entirely instrumental. The new track is very much in keeping with it.

I frequently listen to it back to back with Cynic's 'Focus' (and when I caught Cynic live in 2008, Tymon and Robin from Exivious were playing guitar and bass respectively with them, and they were official members on the 'Re-Traced' EP).

For anyone else interested (I've probably posted these before!)

Did anyone get the new Amorphis album? It's good. Still the same... but MUCH better than The Beginning of Times.
