Haggard, try Machine Head's first two albums if you haven't already.

This particular song from The More Things Change is choc full of riffs from beginning to end.
I've listened to the early stuff yeah, that's not bad but I still find it bland, they've just never done anything for me.

As I said I'm not really an expert when it comes to this kind of stuff, but I do like a bit of AILD from time to time - see exhibit B. Not the most consistent band, and a bit whiny at times, but their guitarists shit out good riffs like they're going out of fashion.

In other news, new Ocean sounds ok. A bit Mastodon-y, but The Ocean rarely disappoint so I'm optimistic.

Admittedly it's nowhere near anything from 1-4 but compared to the woeful dross that came after it, it's a masterpiece.
Yeah, I remember hearing it for the first time when I was about 16 or so and prior to this, literally the only metal albums I'd heard were RtL, MoP, and Maiden's SSoaSS and Powerslave and thinking it was absolute shit compared to any of those. Then came the realisation that when you stack it up next to to Load and Reload, it was solid gold! Bad times indeed.

The only hook Machine Head ever had for me were Chris Kontos (whatever the hell happened to him?) and Dave McClain, both excellent sticksmen. Something about the chord progressions MH use just bugs the shit out of me.

So,the new Hypocirsy record is meant to be very good indeed.

MEGADETH all the way even if Dave Mustaine does seem like abit of an arse. Anyone remember the song Jessie by Paw on road rash 3 on 3DO/PS1, great tune.

    New KSE
The thing about KSE that I can never past - and Machine Head are exactly the same - is that I've never heard a good riff from them, not once.

Is it just me? I just find them so mind-numbingly boring to listen to. Admittedly I'm not really a huge fan of metalcore anyway, but I like it when it's done well.
Same here really. I like half of one MH album but everything else just seems to get worse the more you progress through their career. Locust is just terrible - imo.

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

    Agreed (about Unto the Locust)

I AGREE WITH WARLOCK ABOUT SOMETHING MACHINE HEAD RELATED.

@Dr.Haggard Numbered Days is home to my favourite KSE riff, give that a try.

I haven't listened to Megadeth since Dave said Sandy Hook was orchestrated by the Obama administration. Such a totally shitty thing to say.

Heartily recommend the new album by Nails, called Abandon All Life.

I say album, even though its 10 songs only last a total of 17 minutes - but its a pretty fucking brutal 17 minutes.

    It's on Spotify.

But of course there's Dimebag fans in here. He was probably the the best guitarist to operate within mainstream metal; catchy riffs, tight rhythm playing and interesting leads (you really knew when you were listening to him too). Plus that outro to 'Floods'.

Seeing as they were being directly discussed, compare him to Robb 'Look Mum, I've discovered pinch harmonics!'Flynn, shits all over the guy.

Pantera were obviously one of the first bands I got into as a whippersnapper, but fuck it I still love hearing them, and nine times out of ten it's because of Dimbag's (sic)playing.

Get a taste of some Ledjent of Zelda. Yes, some classic Zelda songs put through a Meshuggah filter:

I am not necessarily a big fan of the djent style but this isn't bad. But still, metal + Zelda! Nerdcore!!

Thank fuck I'm already sat down.

But yeah, when people were listening to it and banging on about it round here I had to check we were both listening to the same album. Sounded like they were trying to be cool with Da Kidz instead of making a good metal album - same with The Blackening though imo.

And if I'm honest the last Cannibal Corpse album I heard - Evisceration Plague. There's a few tracks in there that just have terrible sections that sound a slip away from being a nod to metalcore :(

Meh. At least it's not just me that isn't down with the kids. Fuck those BFMV-loving cunts.

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

Awesome, definitely pre-ordered. Not like I really needed to hear a preview track to do that of course, it is Immolation after all. Shut up and take my money etc.
