Each song is totally different, part nwobhm part black metal.
    I'm sensing a classic
Marrying up those two styles with their pedigree should have resulted in something special, but it didn't do much for me.

The new Rotting Christ is well worth a go.

If symphonic black Dimmu style gets you going, Xanthochroid - Blessed He With Boils is a fine effort.

Giving the new Suffocation album a good workout - easily their best since Despise The Sun!

Also, I completed Metal Gear Rising last night and notice that a Logan Mader was heavily involved with the soundtrack. I assume it's the ex-Machine Head chappie as teh soundtrack had its shair of crunchy guitars.

New Devourment and Suffocation are awesome.

Both vast improvements on the previous albums.

Don't forget Defeated Sanity's new one, Passages of Deformity, which blow both those out of the water (IMO)!! Not that either of those are bad mind you, especially pleased with the Suffocation improvement - best thing since Despise the Sun by quite a bit.

Reading the other day that frank (suffocation) is splitting live vocal duties with another dude.
He's such a great stage presence and gets the audience whipped up into a frenzy. I know if I went to  see them live without him I'd be disappointed, no disrespect to other dude.

Yeah I know what you mean, Frank is untouchable in terms of stage persona.

I saw them last year with Cattle Decapitation (fuckin amazing) and they had the guy from Decrepit Birth doing the mic duties, he's amazing too, really wanted to see Frank but he was more than capabale. and is homeless. brutal.

Yeah, fucking love that band. Check out their back catalogue as well, Chapters of Repugnance is one of my all time favourites!

Also, check out some good recommendations here:

    http://thatshowkidsdie.com/2013/02/20/oodles-of-brutals-ii-guttural-boogaloo/
(Warning: Some explicit covers in that link. If you listen to Death Metal it will be pretty normal though!)

I can personally recommend Abominable Putridity & Guttural Secrete, both are excellent brutal death metal.

Yep, another insta-convert here for Defeated Sanity. Off to Amazon I go...

That Abominable Putridty album cover immediately made me think of Resident Evil 4!

Dave Culross absolutely slays on the new Suffo record. There's just something about his playing, they're way better off with him behind the kit.

Forgot I wanted to comment on this. Good band and the album from which this song comes from is on Spotify as well. Good album. There is an awful lot of atmospheric/ambient/depressive black metal out there at the moment. Lots of crap unfortunately but also some gems like the linked one. If you like that kind of depressive/ambient type black metal then check out this feed on Youtube. He/she uploads lots of very good atmospheric (and obscure) black metal:

Yeah, totally agree on Dave Culross. I don't think it is any coincidence that this is my favourite album of theirs since Despise the Sun, the last album he worked on with them. Love Despise the Sun!

BTW, Willowtip, the Defeated Sanity lable is on Bandcamp so you can listen to their entire (well most of it; they are still uploading some albums) catalogue here:

    http://willowtip.bandcamp.com/

Keep an eye on Wormed's new one, coming in March. Think that is going to win the brutal/technical death metal stakes for 2013. Only heard one song, but based on their previous work, it is going to be amazing!

Yep, it's easily their best since Despise The Sun. It's got me thinking it's partly due to Culross' tremendous playing, and also partly to do with the fact that Mike Smith has always come across as a self-entitled twat.

I'll go out on a limb and say the new one is my 4th favourite release of theirs (after Pierced, Effigy and Despise); again I'm looking at those and thinking that Smith has only played on one of those.

And that Bandcmp link has put my evening's plans on hold. Don't know whether to thank or curse you for it :D

    @BeheretiK

Cheers for the link, will check it out. I ended up buying the Coldworld album as it was relatively cheap on iTunes and am enjoying it a lot.

Download festival line up a bit weak on last year, was just looking to book tickets but having second thoughts. Can't really compete with last years black Sabbath and metallica I guess.

Looks like a "Not Guilty" on Manslaughter for Randy Blythe, which is good news.

You can all look forwards to more terrible Lammagawd albums

Yeah, not particularly a fan of their music, but after seeing the video if he got banged up for it, it would have been a big miscarry of justice.

I see John Gallagher of Dying Fetus is confirm as Frank Mullen's stand in for some of the Suffo shows. That'd be interesting to see.

Yeah that was a bit shit I thought. I did met Guy (and the rest of Suffo, apart from Mike Smith, quelle surprise) at a gig of their's in 2008, and he seemed a pretty affable chap.

Anyone looking for something metal(ish) to read could do worse than taking a look at Backlit Zine. It is well written and designed (some great art as well) and features some interesting articles. New issue includes an interview with Voivod! That reminds me, need to give the new album a listen...

Clive Burr, drummer on the first three Iron Maiden albums has passed away.
