Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Have you found it's helpful to get "labelled"?

I don't get it with Shining, but the main thing I look for in music generally is some form of emotional catharsis. It's an extremely difficult thing to articulate but I assume some will know what I mean. Music that ignites a fire in our emotions and allows it to burn out, leaving a profound sense of resolution at the end.

For me, it's Mgła that nails it. Every time.

You might dig the music of Lifelover, by the way.

    Stay safe.

No need to be sorry, it's replaced the former bipolar 2 diagnosis, which itself once replaced a former unipolar depression one. I learned to take diagnoses with a pinch of salt, but the new one made me think about myself and my history from a different perspective, and I sought out other people with a borderline diagnosis to share experiences with, and that definitely helped. I was sceptical first, but it does make more sense to me now than the previous ones.

Anyway, I actually did dig Lifelover some 8-9 years ago (Konkurs era), but I grew tired of it eventually. I was playing guitar in a small band at the time and drew *cough* inspiration from Lifelover for a song I wrote. There has never been an actual recording, but I still have the first raw practice version recorded on my PC with RiffWorks (before it had lyrics or even a name). I just decided to upload it, because why not.

We were pretty much amateurs and our tastes varied widely, from Mayhem (me) to Kings of Leon (singer), so I tried to make something that's catchy, appeals to everyone and is very easy to play. It turned out ok I think.

@OllyJ Been listening to that after reading a review on Angry Metal Guy a few weeks back. Like it a lot. I hate having to resort to labels but they're definitely at their best when they're more post- than black-, but it's all good.

Also, the new WITTR is just immense. Can't stop listening to it.

Oops I only stopped the one in my Spotify Release Radar playlist, Cold Dark Place which is the title track of the EP, and which, in isolation, was a bit shit.

Priest announced as the final headliner for Bloodstock!

Just got my tickets. Gonna take some work to get me excited about Nightwish but Gojira and Priest are winners!

Saw satyricon last night. Having never been to the heaven venue before I was a bit unsure as to what it would be like over the usual metal venue's. I was pleasantly surprised, I never had hand towels and a choice of aftershave offered to me at the marquee!!
The sound was excellent and they played a varied set. It was also good to finally see suicidal angels.
    A solid 9/10 gig.

Picked up on a few new bands recently and added the following to my collection:

The Great Old Ones - EOD
Lovecraftian black metal (amongst other genres) from France. Just gave a listen on the way into work this morning. The production masks a fair bit of the vocals but from what I've heard it's really fucking good. Looking forward to another listen on the way home.

    Hyborean - Volume I
It's described as stoner rock but to me it's heavier and faster than what I associate with that kind of thing. Lovecraft sneaks in there too as does lyrics inspired from other fantasy / sci-fi like Robert E. Howard and Asimov. Pretty decent.

Also picked up Rotting Christ's Aealo as I thought I owned it and turns out I didn't. Although I will be buying Rituals next as have been streaming that a fair bit and love it.

Some gorgeous new music from the man behind Sylosis and new Architects guitarist Josh Middleton. A new album from a side project he did a couple of years ago.

    The whole album is brilliant.

Been spinning the latest Trivium album and I have to say it's pretty damn good. This is what they should sound like. The last few albums have been really weak but this is right up there with their best. New drummer is incredible.

Have they decided what band they want to be yet? They started metalcore, then decided they wanted to be metallica, then decided not to be after all and become sort of melodeath instead (incidentally putting out their only really good album), then decided to become metalcore again, then some weird hard rock thing, then more generic heavy metal. What are they this album? :p

Wasn't Matt Heafy working with Ihsahn on some project? I know he was on Ihsahn's last album a bit.

Seems to be a culmination of all their sounds but heavier. Granted there's a couple weak tracks it's their best since shogun. Beyond Oblivion is probably the best thing they've written.
