Eurogamer's Gears of War review score...

    Remember all the controversy surrounding the 8 Eurogamer gave Gears of War? So many people thought it deserved a 9 or a 10. Well now that 8 seems a lot more justified after BioShock.

    I know it wouldn't be fair to score a game based on the merits of a game that hasn't even been released yet, but Gears of War isn't even on the same level as BioShock. Plus I never liked Gears of War's art style anyway. It was so horrible. Gear of War SUCKS!!! You know it to be true.

    However you look at it, everything comes back to BioSHOCK.

    I always thought the 8 was justified. I own and enjoy Gears but its nothing special. Boring art style, linear, repetitive gameplay, great fun multiplayer and stunning graphics though.

    Nah, despite everyones Halo scepticism I think it will be an 8 or 9. The multiplayer alone was absolutely superb, if the same effort has gone into the SP then its sure to be excellent.

    I don't know how long it took me to beat the Demo. Hmm, maybe a good 45 minutes? But either way, I enjoyed the BioShock Demo more than I did Gears of Wars. I'm not joking.

    The story and gameplay (plasmids FTW!) will only get deeper in the retail version.

    I actually think BioShock looks much better than Gears of War. Technically Gears of War might be better, but BioShock's atmosphere and art direction puts it way ahead of Gears of War in my book.

    The original poster (and people like him) are putting me off bioshock.

    Now I can see why people hate halo so much. If a game gets too hyped, it's only natural for some anti-hype to begin.

    If I hear more crap about how such-and-such game deserves it's score compared to bioshock, I'm just less likely to buy it.

    In other words, SHUT UP.

    The Gears of War score was very justified. It's a great game, played through it twice (split-screen). But it was never to be a classic... imo. That said, 8/10 is a fucking good score. It wasn't Eurogamer's score that was low, it was just about everyone elses that was way too high.

    Just a point but why shouldn't somebody actually paid to evaluate a given entertainment medium attempt to make people buy into a particular experience?

    That's pretty much the definition of a games journalists job as far as I'm concerned. If they like it, it should be communicated as such.

    I wasn't being serious. Eurogamer needs to send that message to every user even if BioShock wasn't on their most wanted list. Even every person that isn't even a member of Eurogamer!

    Why do you say that? Has the greatness of BoiShock offended you?

    I'm just really excited for BioShock. So much so, in fact, that I can hardly contain it. I'm sorry if it annoys you. Haven't you ever been really excited for a game before? If my enthusiasm for BioShock makes me a knob then so be it.

    If you're a fan of GoW, please don't take this as in insult. I'm also a GoW fan. But I do know that I was more impressed by the BioShock Demo than during the whole time I spent in GoW. But that's just my opinion.

    Anyone who thinks Gears was worth more than an 8 is frankly a fruitcake.

    Gears wasn't too short imho. Any longer it would be probably even duller to play as it indeed got quite repetitive after a while. The only real change was the one scene that I cannot really describe :) Like two houses next to each other where you had to use the rifle a lot. The rest of the game was always the same.

    Still fun and incredible to look at, but that's about it. Multiplayer is fun too but also gets really repetitive after 20 minutes. All in all an enjoyable game though.
