Hi all, i know there's a good few knowledgable in the field of photography here so i thought i'd pick collective brain.|
someone i know is selling a minolta a2 dimage DSLR for £200 with bag, filter, cap, tripod and a couple of pifflingly small CF cards.
still a good camera?
worth the price?
i've been using a canon IS 2 for a couple of years so i've got a bit know-how about exp, shutter speeds, apeture, etc. i just want for more now....
is this camera worth the asking price?
Check the CCD on the camera, and make sure there's no dead pixels on the thing - Minoltas are notorious for 'em.
ok, will do...i guess a dead pixel on a screen with that few pixels = big deal
is it a good starting point for a dslr for £200 though ( maybe be able to get another £25 off or so ) or is it maybe worth stumping up the extra and getting a brand new one ( you can get a few for around £400 now cant you? )
Not so much the screen as the ccd - mine's got about 3 and they're increasingly annoying the feck out of me at the mo..
If it's in mint condition though it's a nifty camera for the price, aye.
Canon 350D is about £400 these days, and if you have Canon lenses it's a no brainer.

As much as the A2 is an excellent camera (I loved my A1), I can't help but think it wont be a massive improvement over your S2, it may have a few more features but the image quality probably wont be much better. A 2nd-hand 350D/D70 might be a better bet, even if it ends up a bit more expensive.
