I'hd recently joined a gym too so will prob check back for advice. Just doing cardiovascular at the moment, 1hr 3 times a week. Need to build up some stamina before I start weights/resistance. Only been going a couple of weeks but really enjoying it. I am a bit of a bloater so any fat burning tips would be great. I have also cut my food intake, although I'm not on any specific diet. Cut out chocolate and ready meals and am a fussy eater veggie (no mushrooms or aubegines).

    Whassamattayou, whyoulookasosad, itsanicaplace, itsanotsobad, heyshaddupayourface.

Don't have any advice yet as I haven't built mine!

I am looking at the CF 475 package from powerhouse fitness plus some spinlock dumbells, an e-z crl bar and a tricep bar to start with. All comes to about 880.

The only thing I'm not sure about is what to get in terms of floor matting. I guess you don't have to buy all your stuff at once, just buy the basics and add stuff as you go along. I do recommend a power rack though, with the pulley and chin-up attachment it seems very versatile.

It's one of EG's unique features. It's something to do with cu-rl being html code or some such gubbins. I assume Craigy is aware!

Type "cur1" (letter "L" instead on one) into google and you'll see why.

Thanks for the advice dude, that website looks quite handy aswell

I've already got loads of weights, just need the other stuff to go with it. With the flooring it might be worth just geetign some excercise mats or something with that sort of material, something spongy, incase you drops the weights on it.

Spongy is not a good surface to be lifting weights on, though.

Just get two smaller mats and stand in between them. Should work like a simple lifting platform.

Exercise at the gym is mainly cardio with resistance machines at the end for the legs and arms. I don't seem to be doing much in the way of ab/stomach work though. Are there exercises I can do to target that area?
No. No one has ever managed to train their abs.

i think i'd like some proper hard rubber floor covering to put the whole power rack and bench on. Its going in the garage, but i'd still like to protect the floor.

Hmmm having second thoughts about that specific power rack package. very good value for money, but read a couple of places that it rocks when you are doing pullups

    i'd prefer something more solid.

    Hi all,

How does one lose 20kg in a healthy way? I'm not looking into gaining muscle mass, or improving my strength; just pure weight-loss.

Probably, providing you follow the directions. Unless they're actually prescribed for obesity by a GP they're probably close to useless though and will just contain green tea extract, caffeine and similar stuff. You could have the same result by eating a strong chilli everyday, essentially.

Have any full-blooded men here given pilates a go? Was it worthwhile if you have?

I run quite a lot, but I do keep getting aches and niggling injuries that take me out for a week. I've also had issues with my lower back for years now, and I'm wondering if an exercise like this would be the miracle cure.

A lot of professional sportsman do pilates, so must be good for something. It's basically core stability and balance, so how bad can it be?

I didn't think it would be bad, but wondered if it was worthwhile.

I dont know much about pilates but I think yoga is pretty good if you can ignore the spiritual nonsense it is sometimes wrapped up in.

I dont like hyperextending my back very much but yoga feels great for my shoulders and legs and it is very relaxing.

I always thought Pilates was basically Yoga without all the spiritual nonsense.
