Last day on holiday before returning to work.

I've rowed 5k and just done some sprint intervals for 20mins in the rain. Now for lunch and a lazy afternoon playing spec ops:the line.

    :)

That's not a lazy day. That an intense session of hand eye coordination exercises

Terry Hollands is 6'6" and pulls over 400kg :D
I'd say it is more about your limb lengths relative to you torso. People with longer legs relative to their torso deadlift with a highet hip position at the start of the lift.

I have this problem. When I was powerlifting my 1rm was 190 at 85kg bw.

The best cue Iv been given is to stand up straight, stick your chest out and pull your shoulders back. Then maintain this posture when you set up to deadlift. Everything seems to fall into place around this. Its the only way I can get the bar to travel straight.

I agree its easy to over do the deaflift. I find I do better with low volume. One working set is enough. But Im a more casual lifter really, mot looking to smash any records

    @fletch :)

Also, if I said that to my wife, she'd just think I'd spent the whole afternoon wanking.

For cardio would love to start swimming again. Haven't done that in years and know it would beast my body. Low impact and works muscles you have forgotten about.

Once your general strength goes up then some of those 20 rep sets will be easier. Sorry I'm probably telling you what you already know :)

Going to gym now, do like some of the characters down there. Majority are all following body buding routine, a lot of bench and arm group. Stick like figures doing their curls in front of the mirrors :) whose body and weight they lift hasn't changed since I first saw them in the gym in Novemeber. one guy who is probably one of strongest there, has his little entourage following him as he is doing deadlifts.

Set myself some targets. Like to do 200kg for 5 reps deadlift this year. Keep it slow and steady with 10kg raises a month. Do body weight squat then get it upto 1.5 bodyweight x 5 reps. Power or Squat clean 100kg would probably be my ultimate challenge. 50 kg farmers walk round the gym for 3 laps.
20 rep squats are more cardio / endurance challenging than strength. One set can take 2-3 minutes so they can be quite mentally challenging. Just standing for 2-3 mins with 80-90kg on your back is uncomfortable.

I did them because they fit my lifestyle at the time but its good to experiment a bit now and again.

I agree Deadlift can be such a strain on the system. Glad I like to have 4 light warm up sets then one working set. It's my last exercise for the week Plus Friday is always fast food treat day. So off to Macdonalds for a happy meal after I lift the weight :)

Yeah they do look fun. 10-12 mile assault courses aren't they? Think I need to get some more miles under my boots before attempting one :)

Yeah it's a 12mile assault course designed by former SAS soldiers

It's not until August so I've got plenty of time to get in real shape for it. Loads of running and circuits with kettle bells and the medicine ball I think will be the order of the day!

@thenastypasty I've actually signed up to a Spartan Sprint race in August. Not sure which of the two races is harder, but Spartan has various sizes (starting at Sprint, right up to a 24 hour Death Race). Looking at videos of Tough Modder though, it seems more scary o_O

It'll be the first time I ever try something like this, so I decided a 3 mile race is the best start. Small steps and all that ;)

Me and a friend at work are on the cusp of signing up to a tough mudder. Looks very hard but lots of fun! Plus it'll be after my marathon so should be a walk in the park...

Everyone knows Jack Thompson - but how did he become the game-blaming activist he is today? Read Part One of my new mini-series!

I've got a friend who's in 2 rifles in the army and he's done both marathon runs and tough mudder, he told me tough mudder is a lot harder :)

The videos of the tough mugger look absolutely terrifying, massive leaps, climbs, hauling yourself up rope after a half marathon would be total hell. And do they run through live wires with electricity?!

I'm really not looking forward to the electric wires bit. A friend got hit in the nads by one and it dropped him like he'd been punched by Tyson :D

Think of the guilt free kebabs you could knock down after all that. Totally worth it.

I went for my first proper swim in ages today. I managed 10 lengths and was totally knackered by the end. I managed to get a good rythem going by the end but had to stop every couple of lengths for a breather. Lots of room for improvement I think.

It was 36 degrees here today so just being in the water was nice / relaxing. I went in the baby pool with my daughter afterwards which is a nice way to end the day aftet a shitty day at work.

    That's what I said!

First chest and biceps workout for about two weeks last night. Could barely lift a thing! It was coming back to me by the end though, next week should be better.
