Bandai Namco Games unleashed a big surprise at Sony's PlayStation Premier event today in Tokyo with the announcement of an all new game from Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi.

Titled Nobi Nobi Boy, all we have on this PlayStation 3 title are just a couple of pieces of artwork. The artwork and name ("Nobi" can mean "to stretch" in Japanese) suggests that the game will center around a flexible wormlike creature of some form.

We expect more details to surface shortly, so be sure and check back soon!

good to see Keita starting a new IP, hope it works out for him.

Big name Japanese developers are like Dracula. You think they're dead, they say they're dead, but... they always come back.

Hes called 'nobi nobi boy' and for once the name delivers the sort of character design you'd expect...

Kojima mentioned it at E3 - we're supposed to get playable MGS4 footage, too (unless we have and I just haven't checked the thread).

And I'll say it again - now you're all going to have to buy a PS3!

    I figured that was just a Konami event - I didn't realise it was a full-blown Sony-a-thon.

It's quite late in Japan now, haven't they finished?

I hope they don't westernise the name. And I hope it appears on the Wii at some stage because the comedy potential would be limitless...

I was at the Kaita Takahashi Keynote at the GameCity 2007 in Nottingham today and have upped some pics of the presentation here.

The presentation included a demo of Nobi Nobi boy, there are some pics in the link above and a cam video I took has been mirrored here.

For the slightly higher resolution through a torrent click here.

I just read about this in EDGE and wished I had been there. I'll watch the video, but just so I know did he go off on one about the evils of iterative game development?

Has it been said what kind of game (if any) this will turn out to be yet?

Would love to see the concept applied to a puzzle platformer. Using swinging and stretching to solve puzzles and swallowing objects to gain extra momentum/transport animals to the end goal.

Nope, he was really quiet and talked through a translator.

He went on about videos he and his freinds had made, his noisy neighbours, the fact that lorrys are not cute enough, the stickers he collected from pre-packaged food to get a bowl and cup (that were really cheap to buy anyway),how far he has come to see us (via google earth) while drawing lots of pics on his mac and carefully avoiding doing anything you would expect at a keynote speech.

    O.o

What was the aim of this? I could hardly hear the translator but caught "N" and 2008.

Looks wacky. I like wacky things :-)
