Yep. Persistence. It'll keep updating, failing, updating, failing, and so on BUT will retain your DL progress as long as you don't quit the session. Bear in mind that the updates are huge (my game data went from 3.5 to 6GB at one point) and on slow servers so patience is your only hope.....

    patience prevailed... :-)
I am in and racing... Took around 30 minutes in total I suppose, so not to much bother.

yeah. The quote from Miamuchi (whatever his name is) saying that the game is pretty much ready and can be released whenever they want...
Yeah, that's utter horseshit. I wouldn't pay much attention to that.

Did he give a rationale for not releasing it, if it was indeed ready?

They are using GT mobile to launch the new PSP, so I guess that it's not beyond the realms of possibility that they will use GT5 to launch the PS3 Slim. Which would account for the wait.

He has said that the game is finished, but they are constantly adding cars / content.

I reckon Easter 2010 for this one. I'd rather them take their time and pack as much in as possible rather than rush it out the door unfinished. Sure it might be a long wait, but hopefully then it will be worth waiting for :)

While I'm here, does anyone know of a way to check your online times (in GT5:p) without going into the game. Is there a website like Forza has where you can check them?

I wouldn't lose much sleep over the risk of PD rushing out GT5!

/also hopes that each month we wait means more cars + tracks + stuff

I hope they fix the patching system.

Well there are strong arguments that GT2 was pushed out the door uncompleted. I can't remember exactly what they were now, but they were there :)

You mean patch the patch update routine? :) Aye me too. Why they can't do it the same way everyone else does it is beyond me.

I just found out Gran Turismo 4 came out in 2005. So Gran Turismo 5 will be out around 5 years after its predecessor. It better be close to perfection :)

Yea but think they are waiting for a price cut before they release it.

If I recall, it was thought that GT2 would include drag racing... there are a few outright drag cars in the game, and some others that could be modded up to spec. I think some regional versions of the game also couldn't be completed beyond 98.x%. I think this was corrected for the euro release though.

Yep, well, you could sniff it, I don't think you were supposed to scratch it =)

One of the fugliest cars ever designed. Apt that it's a Citroen.

It looks a lot like that bizarre Japanese fish-shaped thing they had on Top Gear a few series back. Can't find a pic link - anyone?

Yep the UK version did have a scratch and sniff disk (i think it was the smell of oil or the pits, something like that) and you couldn't get completion above 98.2% as the devs took drag racing out at the last second.

It's not very nice to drive that car in the game. You can hardly see where you are going and cornering isn't very good either. It does have a good acceleration, though.
