    Any advice for GT n00b?
Try some of the seasonal events. They give more money and XP and will help you get into the game quicker than the grind of A-spec. Though you may need to do a little bit of A-spec to get a good vehicle for a seasonal event.
This, IMO, is one of the best things about GT and for me, GT5 made things too easy.

I loved the structure / balance of the earlier games, where you'd spend a long time with a single car, buying the cheapest upgrades, a little at a time to improve your chances as the Sunday / Clubman cups etc. progressed.

That connection with a single car(s) was missing from GT5, for me. There we're a few cars I stuck with and eventually Race Modified but I do miss the grind and eventual feeling of actually having earned a new car, for the cycle to begin again.

Inclined to agree with Ron_Justice there - I got some special code version that gave me 100,000 credits, an NSX race spec and an Audi R8 LM (which I can't even sell, or delete from the game). A far cry from the 20,000 CR you got in previous GT games.

Part of the fun (for me) is to start with a banger, then slowly work your way up to the faster cars. Here, you're showered with cars left right and centre, and cash too now with the Seasonals. The one grind I really dislike though is the insane number of points to unlock later races (the 24h Le Mans I would never finish but at least would like to have a go at it, but it takes forever to get there by collecting XP).

Hope they address this in GT6 and structure the progression better - even if they'd just copy GT1/2's single player I'd be satisfied already.

And above all else, switch the controls so that accelerate and brake are on the triggers.

My spelling of rediculous is ridiculous.

Cool. For 4 it can't be that bad. Just want to whizz around 1080p. I notice the box says 3D as well...I have a 3D TV, I wonder what that's like...

It's OK, not something you'd want to use a lot as you lose a lot of detail. But I still dabble with it in 3D occasionally.

Game also runs a lot better at 720p than the not really 1080p setting (1280x1080).

Don't worry, plenty of grind to come.

(At least with all the patches it's no-where near as bad as the game was at launch)

    @PhoenixFlames

Why didn't you wait for GT6?

@SYS64738 I don't pay out 40 for games these days and I'm not too fussed about driving games but for 4 what the hell?

Fair enough. And then there's still the risk of #6 not running as smooth as 5. I'm still a bit worried about its performance given the way the demo ran (i.e. like a dog).

Gran Turismo 5 Academy Edition, just picked this up for next to nothing, 4

Before my original PS3 broke, I was into GT5. With my next PS3 I picked up GT6. While it contained some impressive new lighting, some really impressive new tracks, not to metnion superior menu design, gone was the the Top Gear Track, the F1 Ferrari's, not to mention the horrible addition of elastic-band AI.

Gran Turismo 5 Academy Edition seems on the face of it, GT5 with extra stuff and simpler menu's. Unlike GT6, GT5/GT5 AE feels more how a GT game should be, difficult. Until GT7 shows up for the PS4, Gran Turismo 5 Academy Edition it is!

I was under the impression the extra stuff in Academy came in DLC form which was all taken down since the servers were taken offline, so GT5AE is effectively just GT5 in a white box?

Having owned the original GT5 and since sold it, from what I can tell, GT5AE has much improved menu design. The game claims to contain more cars, more courses.
