Multiplayer only tactical shooter from Slant Six. We know what to expect, but it still sounds pretty decent. I especially like the sound of the customisation of Character, squad, etc.

SOCOM breaches onto the PS3 in high-definition with the ultimate next-generation online combat experience. SOCOM Confrontation focuses on online play and the global community and clans that support it. With support for Tournaments, Clan Ladders, Leader Boards, this latest title in the multi-million unit selling franchise is exactly what SOCOM fans have been clamoring for. Additionally, players will be able to modify their appearance through facial and physical customization. A global-scale experience, SOCOM Confrontation gives players the opportunity to battle against the best and brightest from the U.S., Europe and Asia. SOCOM Confrontation deploys with five new North African themed maps, including a 32-player version of "Crossroads." Additional themed packs for SOCOM Confrontation will be made available for download via the PlayStation Store.

I've never followed SOCOM until recently, have Zipper been retired from the series now?

Nope, Zipper are still on for the proper game, this is being outsourced. (if that's the corect terminology)

Nah, SixSlant are making / have made (?) Socom tactical Strike for the PSP. The other PSP games were still made by Zipper. (:

I do hope that because its a different team, there won't be any bugs. Atleast, no more so. =P

    Crossroads is back!

I like the look of the game.

Might struggle to compete with Warhawk tho.

Hmm, not sure. Yeah they are quite different but people might only want one online only game.

Sony online might not be great yet,but its something they are working on.
If it plays like socom2 and has the intense qcb of that game then it can be a winner, oh and did I mention the graphics are brilliant as well.

This is where I reiterate my strange request: You should be able to install the multiplayer component of all games. No need to search for a disc if you want to hop into a game that you see someone else is playing.

This is also where these PSN multiplayer only games come in, actually.

Still think Killzone is going to surprise a lot of people, thats sonys big gun for this e3 metal gear will be great but look out for killzone.
Everyone wants it to flop but I think sony has something very big to show with this game.

Even if it turns out to really be great, Halo 3 will overshadow it by hype alone. As Morpheus says, "Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony" ;)

Halo is a very by the numbers shooter that we have seen a million times before.
1up said that people are going to be suprised by how different killzone is something to do with the six axis.
Reloading the guns with it or even controling recoil from the guns I dont know just guessing.

The install base for SOCOM is very big, and I can tell you most would buy a PS3 to play it. Warhawk and SOCOM will go hand-in-hand, but I can see everyone playing SOCOM more, especially now we have the old SOCOM 2 maps back. [:

I really don't like tilt at the moment. Nothing I've tried seems to justify it. Warhawk, Motorstorm, Flow, that duck game. I'm glad Warhawk, and Motorstorm don't force you to use it too, and that's its not the default controls.

And the hype for Halo 3 was lost when they let people play the demo. =P

What's happened to this game? - it was supposed to be out this holiday season, yet absolutely nothing at GC... :(

Same could be said for almost every game. :)

I think it should still make it out. Or at least I hope so.

Game kind alooks a bit rubbish in comparison to Metal Gear Online now.

Which is a shame. I know theres more than enough room for both, this being the GRAW to MGO's Rainbow Six.

^ not sure I agree with that.

Don't get me wrong, MGSO looks freaking awesome - but the quality of gameplay in the original SOCOM (which Confrontation is being based on) was 100% and highly addictive.

Anyway, fresh today (from 3 months ago):

    more screens

Brilliant! I've been hoping there'd be a proper "big boy" socom game for a while - let's hope it's as good as the later portable offerings.

    Hot DAMN!

Looking really really nice at the moment...

This, for me, will win over COD4 if the gameplay is close to the original SOCOMs...

    +1

This is looking very nice. I'm an avid CoD4 fan but there are a few titles coming out that will be wrestling me away from S&D pipeline.

This is has got to be one of them

    All about the gameplay.
The graphics were great at the time, first online console game for PlayStation with voice comms. Simple weapons library, basic Counter Strike style of gaming = all made it very popular with its players. Had a great beta test that built up a good number of long term players too.

It also had a shitload of players (held the number #1 most popular online console game top spot for ages, a fact that was unbelievable for most people).

I wonder about that. What is most played? A 100 000 (0) unique users a week?

At the time it was quite a lot:

Sony's own figures for SOCOM, which has sold over two million copies worldwide to date, show the game supporting between 50,000 and 60,000 players a day - a long way behind the figures for major PC online titles like Counter-Strike or EverQuest, but still pretty impressive given that the console online gaming market is very much in its infancy.

    That was back in 2001/2002.
