I thought this was already confirmed for console, but I guess unbelievably not. (Almost every PC preview online would be followed by a trail of expectant comments from 360 owners demanding to know why the 360 version, was never referenced in the coverage!) No matter, it's still excellent news, regardless. :)

It WAS marked as multi platform. As usual tx show their total incompetence at normal journalism.

I wonder how it will play out though. If they want to do it properly they will need a shitload of zombie players. At least 30 I would say to make it convincing.

Dead rising numbers would be ideal though. ;p

According to all the previews that I have read of this, the AI is really great, and can simulate zombies and humans really well. Check out the 1up show that has the preview of this... It really looks the dogs bollocks.

There's co-op play, where it's your group of survivors vs. the zombies - That's bound to be popular! Definitely looked like it from the 1up Show coverage. But then, the highly informative (imo) Gamespy preview highlights a different option, where a second team (other than the initial 4 survivors) take control of boss monsters, such as the Boomer, Hunter and so on.

There appear, outside of that to be no purely versus options? (I suppose because "infection" gametypes are now an FPS commonplace occurence, and the makers want L4D to stand out from amongst the horde).

Nobody watched the QuakeCon footage yet? Right here, posted yesterday on GameVideos.

I really need this game. This'll be top of everyone's playlist for sure once they've worn in Halo 3.

Now we are finally in early 2008 I thought it best to resurrect this thread. Has anyone heard anything on this lately?

I dont know, but Left 4 dead looks kinda crap if you ask me. I think I'll stick with Haze, Killzone, Halo and COD.

I dunno, the asymmetric multiplayer bit in L4D sounds like it could be pretty cool.

I don't want it because of the quality of the graphics, it's the infinitely re-playable coop zombie/survival gameplay I'm after ;)

I've just sat down and watched gamer tv from this week on sky+ and they actually has some footage of this being played. They also said that they'd be reviewing it soon. Fingers crossed that is actually soon (and good).

Two new previews, from hands-on experience of playing L4d. Excerpt:
If you're a fan of zombies and co-op and find yourself inescapably gleeful at the prospect of combining one with the other, you've probably watched the development of Valve's Left 4 Dead with great anticipation. I'm right there with you. And like me, your expectations might be extremely--even unfairly--high. But the experience itself is so thoroughly realized, so well composed, that once you get your hands on Left 4 Dead you'll wonder how we ever put up with anything less.

Sounds more fantastic the more I read about it. Would have been nice earlier in the year mind.

Is this coming out on the 360 as well? Those previews were very good, and re-enforce what I hoped the game would be like. This could be my most anticipated game of 08.

Here's hoping the 360 version isn't as blighted by lag as TF2 was.

    now 360 exclusive
The new game from the newly-acquired-by-Valve studio Turtle Rock Studios, Left 4 Dead has had a fair bit of press from the PC side of the gaming press, but we've heard relatively little in relation to a console version. Well that's over, as OXM recently revealed that the game will not only be appearing on PCs, but that the 360 version will be the only one appearing on any console. The folks from OXM got to play two scenario's (read: levels) on PC and one level on a 360 dev kit. As a minor point (but a good sign) the names of those levels recall the game's horror roots: "The Hospital" and "Cornfield."

The second part to this news is the identity of the developer who will be handling the 360 port (Valve and Turtle Rock won't be working with it hands-on). That dev is the creator of Halo 2 DLC, Certain Affinity. The 16 man team with former Halo team members will be "handle(ing) 360-specific elements like matchmaking, Live support, console customization, and 360 gameplay tweaks."

I don't think a PS3 version has ever been mentioned.

    This space left intentionally blank.
