    What was that then?
Robot Rock remix in the middle of an amazing album. Lots ans lots and lots and lots and LOTS of dududududududdrrrrr drums.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

    Album of the year?

    Sorry, had to
10/10. It will be perfect :-)

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

'Contact' dwarfs the rest of the songs on here - brilliant.

Feels like the moment the album finally steps out into the sun after being in the cool shade.

Just tried to listen to Discovery again, but had to turn it off. Not because it's bad, but because every song has been played to its bloody death across TV shows, movies and sports events over the last ten years, or sampled on other people's stuff.

Which is no reflection on the album I hasten to add.
Just make it past the first four songs and the rest of the album wasn't played or sampled anywhere near as much. Superheroes and Something About Us are probably my favourite tracks from the second half of the album.

Or better still watch Interstella 5555 :)

I was slating Get Lucky a couple of pages back (it grew on me eventually), but I think the album is fucking incredible.

I thought Get Lucky was mediocre, but now I think it's the best thing on there.

Really? Better than 'Giorgio By Moroder', loud, on headphones?

An interview, late 70s synth song, a classical instrument interlude that ends as an electric guitar rock song? It's just weird.

There's a lot of good stuff on this album. It just feels really incoherent as a complete record, that's my main problem with it. Some of the stuff is like 70's disco pop and some of it sounds like it could have been on Radiohead's 'Kid A'. I think I'll grow to really like it.

Yeah it's all over the place, but there's definitely a lot of stuff on there I like. I can see it being a grower.

I kinda like how it's so fucking weird and different. As much as I love Human After All / Discovery, if they did Human After All / Discovery 2.0 it would've been pretty underwhelming.

Glad I'm not alone thinking this. It's the only track that smacks you round the face begging for attention (ok and the drumming on Giorgio come to think of it). Amazing!

I really enjoyed the crazy stuff more than the slow funk. Mind you, 2nd time around, the tracks i didn't warm to are growing on me.

I think someone else pointed out on here that the album is such a grab bag of ideas and styles it doesn't quite come together in the end. But it does go out on a big high.

Not listened to album yet, but what's consensus on album version of get lucky? Better than radio edit?

I didn't notice any difference except for an extra couple of bars at the start.

I hate saying this because it sounds incredibly twattish and snobby, but I think some people are just not getting this album. The clinical description of Giorgio above just baffles me. I had chills up my back first time I heard it. It's like dismissing a stunning sunset as 'a ball of hot gas and some water vapour'.

As kovacs said there a couple of extra bars at the start.  They extend the lead in to the robots by a few bars, the robots repeat their initial lines a few times.  That's it.  Its just more stretched out.

Quite disappointing really.  Most of the rest of the album made up for this though.

@Kovacs77 We're looking for different things, you want a song that interesting to listen to (and gorgio has that), I'm looking for slow hard beats, rollin and scratchin, that's my thing.

See, that's my problem. I go into an album expecting to hear fresh new sounds, and for tracks to surprise me with their uniqueness. Daft Punk sounds like more recycled Daft Punk mixed with a bit of Jean Michel Jarre. I like the Pharell tracks, but other than those it's all entirely predictable and a bit too smooth funk without any irony or playfulness.

Did you not listen to "Touch"? That's nothing like any of Daft Punk's previous material; and is one of my favourite on the album because of it.

I've listened to the whole thing a few times now. Saying "this one song is nothing like their usual output" isn't helping, though. One song out of the whole album?

I know they have a 'sound', but there's so much more they can do with it.
