I didn't like Discovery much when I first heard it, but I'd never write an album off after one play through. That would just be idiotic.

@JuanKerr Have you listened to the new album yet?
I didn't even get halfway through before writing it off

You're right. There's some albums I thought were middling when I first heard them but have since become favourites. I didn't really find much to like about RAM though apart from the occasional glimmer of hope (and I do mean glimmer: I'm talking about something like a nice drum sound). In hindsight I was being quite kind yesterday if anything.

I gave up on Get Lucky this time round (a bit over halfway through). My opinion hasn't changed much. It's a turkey, apart from Contact.

Get Lucky is the perfect representation of the rest of the album. Its light, its funky, its sparkly, its clean, its well groomed, its got a bit with robot voices and it doesn't go anywhere.

It's a Daft Punk album. I've spent 20 years loving Daft Punk while the mainstream ignored them. I have absolutely no problem with this album being left alone by most people as well.

Haven't Daft Punk been a huge deal since their second album? (Genuine question)

They've been a huge deal since Homework. But they've never really bothered the radios or the singles charts, mainly because they take so very very very very (very) long between releases. And also because a lot of the joy is in the remixes. I'm looking forward to a summer of Daft Punk cropping up in every dancefloor mix and nightclub set, that's what's making me happy

The only remixes I've heard that I really like are the ones on Alive 2007. Human After All really made sense on that album (I liked it before that, but I know I was in the minority).

Human After All is definitely their weakest album, but Alive 2007 shows what potential those songs have.

Look, I'm not holding up any grandiose statements like this will be objectively the best album of 2013 (although it might) or that Daft Punk are the greatest musicians of their age (although they are). It's a lot simpler than that. On a personal level, these guys have provided the soundtrack to my life and I cannot wait to see where they take me next.

@LeoliansBro - I take it you've heard the LIFELIKE remix of Get Lucky, I can't decide if it's terrible or good.

    Alive 2007 is something else.

I've actually wondered if Human After All was made with that tour in mind. Some of the mixes work freakishly well.

I'll be really interested to see what you both make of RAM once you hear it, actually. The one other super-fan in here (ecu, IIRC) didn't seem to rate it much.

Just tried to listen to Discovery again, but had to turn it off. Not because it's bad, but because every song has been played to its bloody death across TV shows, movies and sports events over the last ten years, or sampled on other people's stuff.

Which is no reflection on the album I hasten to add.

It's fucking mint full stop, love that track. Best mix is Prime Time of Your Life/Brainwasher/Rollin' and Scratchin'/Alive mix though.

Yeah, I had the same thought actually - can't be a coincidence that all the best tracks on that album contain something from Human After All.

    Listening to some Hybrid now.

    Now that's more like it.

Just had a listen. I'd dance to that, it's crisp and it messes around with the beats. I'm a sucker for this sort of thing though, loved what Soulwax did with Daft Punk a few years back.

Loved what Soulwax did with everyone for that matter, but there you go.

    Any Daft Punk Fans Here?

    No :-)

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Truly the highlight of this thread.

All the eurogamers who actually play with each other on xbl rather than just post pseudointellectual pc handwringing bollocks on the forums, love the shit out of biggy.
