Looking for a new TV, have a budget of £450.
42" with Freeview, maybe a Smart one?

I am drawn to this, I like the idea of Ambilight, it doesn't seem common though.
Can't find a price on a new one , it only seems to be available 2nd hand.

Is Backlit LCD a similar effect?

Would buying a second hand Philips, maybe 4 years old, be a stupid move?
    I've got a Philips FlatTV from 2006, it's always had a wonky on/off switch.

Hey mate. For me, when I've seen Ambilight I just find it a distraction, I'd also be very wary of buying a telly second hand.

Buztafen linked to this the other day and for the price you probably can't get as good a TV anywhere else. I have a Panny plasma too and it's bloody awesome.

There's loads on hotukdeals, just search LED.

    This seems decent http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/toshiba-40tl868b-40-inch-internet-3d-led-tv-399-97-delivery-10-from-directtvs-deal/1120832

Again, at the mo you have huge choice!

    Thanks chaps

@BinaryBob101 , yeah, I was sold on something, but don't fancy that turkey anymore.

Think I'm going new 42" Panasonic.

I now know what backlight means also ;)
