As it says above. Does anyone have any tips, warning, praises etc for my chosen Stag destination.

I'm too cheap to buy a guide book :)

I'm not sure if it's Lithuania specifically, but I've heard general warnings about people being gently 'kidnapped' in strip joints and the like. Going in and not being let out until they've handed all their cash over.

I'd say make sure you don't go in any seedy looking back-street places.

That happened to a couple of guys I worked with in Paris!

I hope Hostel isn't the in flight movie :p

I have a good mate who has been living there for the last two years. He has nothing but good things to say about the place. Cheap booze, great looking women and safe as houses.

    You will have a blast.

yeah..my mates were there.. a few got mugged in the club.. others had there money 'taken' off them by the police..oh wait..think the police one was in Russia..

just dont go into any really sussy places..there'll be tourist friendly places etc..

LOL everyones been on about Hostel.

There's about 19 of us so there might be safety in numbers. Or they might think hey let's rob these 19 people and we could retire our scams for the rest of the year.

    I hope it's good!!

Edit: I'm going to try and steer the guys away from strip clubs. I don't think we'll be going to them

As long as the stag do is like the first half of Hostel, then you'll have a great time!

edit @ Caspar - indeed it's sound life advice, but this sort of thing is very common in the former Soviet bloc countries apparently.

Take a second wallet, with a few old credit cards and a small-ish amount of money in it. That way, if you do get scammed in some way, you can just use the fake wallet.

c'mon y'all it can't be ALL that bad can it. I don't think any one person will try to scam us as there will be too many of us. Not just that we aren't exactly soft either!

TBH all the lads are quite capable of copping off in normal bars - don't need to do strip bars. Also they sound seedy anyways.

LOL I'm the only gamer amongst them. Guess how sad I'll look trying to find a game shop in Vilnius to buy (hopefully) a cheap MArio Strikers Charged.

I believe Vilnius is the place where most of Napoleons army ended up getting buried after his failed invasion of Russia.

Anyway you should be fine as long as you don't try to invade Russia and if you do make sure to retreat before winter.

If you do meet any of the local women and take a shine to 'em - don't go in bareback!

Cheers for the advice. But there will be no chance of that as I am happily married.

Really? I went to uni there from 1997-2001 and loved it - lots of nice pubs, not too busy and friendly people. However, it did start turning a bit like Ibiza in my final year and I was hoping it would go to pot ...

What was so bad about it?

OK got back from Vilnius today. I am of asian origin (Indian). OK here is what we experienced in our 3 nights there:

    1st Day
locals shouting at us in their own language - did not know what they were saying but it wasn't hello!

Walking to club and 2 guys come up to shouting "Zieg Heil Zeig Heil" with their arm in the air. We were disgusted. We could have whacked them but we didn't want to stoop to the level of those 2 guys

    2nd Day
In a casino, 2 guys shouting at us "why are you in my country!". Sadly they weren't asking it was obvious they wanted us out.

Met some American Christian students, they told me they (their college) do not recommend African-Americans come to Lithuania as part of their group.

More locals looking at us in disgust and shouting words at us.

    3rd Day
After seeing two black guys get bottles thrown at them, we got the same treatment.

Got into cab, driver ignored us - so got out
Got into another cab - driver ignored us - so got out. Next cab was fine.

Some guys trying to push us around on the dancefloor. Luckily we kept calm and did not kick off.

And during our stay there, we met other people and they had very similar stories and they were DJ's from the UK.

Apart from the people trying to blatantly rip you off too!!!

Our experience of LT was not good and we will definitely not be going back there. I didn't like it one bit.

    Wow, sounds awful.

Don't think it's like that all over Eastern Europe, though. In my country (Romania), even though I recently had to come to terms with the fact that there is more racism than I imagined, nobody would ever be treated like that, not even in a remote village.
