First mix from Planned Obsolescence is rather good, Beck is one of my favourite artists.

Really interesting idea to cover classic albums too.

I idolise him. Can't really put it any other way. Consistently brilliant for nearly 20 years.

Interview with Tom Waits up in case anyone missed it, a good read.

And an acoustic version of Modern Guilt is starting now. Much like the Record Club, it will be one song a week: Videotheque. Woops, messed the link up.

    Also, interview at Pitchfork.

I must be blind, where's that interview with Tom Waits, on Pitchfork?*

*Where I've just found a documentary about Townes van Zandt which I am watching now.

    edit:

Nevermind, found the interview on Beck's site. D'oh.
  • Deleted user 13 July 2009 22:30:07
Ah sorry, should've been clearer on that. :)

The Tom Waits review is on the Beck site under 'Irrelevant Topics'. The Pitchfork link is to an interview with Beck put up today.

I also have an unhealthy obsession with Odelay, but no mention of GameBoy Variations yet? It's pretty fun:

The video for Beck and Charlotte Gainsbourg's new single. The video is a surrealist masterpiece.

Aren't there enough albums already? Already Sea Change and Mutations which are both brilliant albums. Just listening to Sea Change tonight. Made up for being lost on the tube big time.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

I think the odd song here and there and producing other artists' albums might be the way he's going, which I think I'd be okay with. All the stuff he's produced has been excellent (Charlotte Gainsbourg's IRM, Thurston Moore's Demolished Thoughts and Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks' Mirror Traffic).

Huh? Someone makes some brilliant albums so why want them to make more?

He has mentioned that he is sitting on a bucket load of material, forgetting that he hasn't actually released any of it. Whether or not that means he will is another story.

    BECK ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM...

...in the form of sheet music

All getting a bit gimmick-y now. The odd single dropped here and there or on compilations, music for games and now a sheet music album. Just release an album, man!

Just got hold of a copy of Gainsbourg's Histoire de Melody Nelson. Beck's a cheeky cunt if he reckons he wrote Paper Tiger.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

Beck contributed an absolutely epic remix to this Philip Glass remix album. The best thing he's done in a very long time, I think.

The whole album is worth listening to, actually. Some choice remixers there.
