Didn't really enjoy the production on either Guero or The Information. I'd like to hear him get a bit more ramshackle again.

That's too much awesomeness than I can take in all at once.

What did you feel was wrong with it?

The only problem with The Information was that it was FAR too long. Cut a few needless tracks off it, and it would've been pretty special, IMO.

Heh! I'm going to see him in Manc-land at the Apollo. Can't wait, and that news is making the wait even more unbearable!

Reminds me, I really should get round to finally buying Mellow Gold.

Considering I have the Deluxe Odelay and Guero on vinyl as well as the normal CD editions, it's a bit criminal not having his debut album.

    Is Guerolito any good?

I really enjoyed Guero, felt really focused and solid. It wasn't totally original, but it was a fun, upbeat record that he needed to get out of his system, especially after Sea Change.

Now, I haven't actually heard The Information - the reviews seem to be very mixed and I'm not a big enough Beck fan to go ahead and buy it. If it's the same level of quality as Mutations or Odelay, then of course it's a must buy, but to some it's apparently 'uninspired' and lacking in originality.

Could someone give me their thoughts on the album, because I'm rather intrigued.

It's out on the 7th in the UK, I would guess no earlier for Europe.

    Out tomorrow, can't wait. :D

Heard three tracks off it already, and they've been excellent.
  • Deleted user 7 July 2008 11:19:08
I noticed this at the show but... the chorus from Youthless is melodically the same as the one from Smells Like Teen Spirit!

5 tracks in, and I'm loving it so far.

This album is fantastic! I love it so much at this point in time. I wish there was some 1337 limited ed. for it just to show how much I do loves it.

Beck with Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker, Brian Lebarton, Bram Inscore, Yo, Giovanni Ribisi, Chris Holmes, and from Iceland, special guest Thorunn Magnusdottir singing Velvet Underground's Sunday Morning.

    Magic.

Apparently he's going to "re-do" Sonic Youth's Evol on cassette for a box set.
  • Deleted user 25 June 2009 20:08:27
I have Odelay, Sea Change and Guero. Really like his stuff.
  • Deleted user 30 June 2009 17:40:40
That Beck Record Club is a great idea, and it's actually really good too. Amazing that they recorded it in a day.

As morriss says, next one up is EVOL which has been rumoured for a while.

And today he launched a new weekly DJ mix called Planned Obsolescence! Good time to be a Beck fan. :)

I'm a massive fan of sea change (except paper tiger which is shit).

Lost cause is such a tune, unbelievable, also sounds wicked on the acoustic when chillin'

That's gonna be.. erm...um... I don't think there is an appropriate adjective in the English language!
