Fwiw (which isnt much) I grow facial hair everywhere that you "should" for a beard aside from just under my lower lip in two small areas. Thankfully it doesnt look quite as dickish as Beckham's... though I forgot to brush my hair today, so I'm pretending I'm "stylish" as it looks like the messed up crap he doubtless paid a fortune for.

Yeah, that's normal. You must be new to beards.

Well... I don't tend to look at other blokes beards or stubble and check them out if that's what you mean. I just know what my own stubble looks like.

I'm contemplating shaving my beard off but I'm worried it'll make me less of a man.

Although the reason I'm thinking about it is due to female pressure so I've already traded in most of my man points.

Have been growing a proper beard (short boxed) for the first time and it doesn't look bad at all (apparently it makes me look friendlier). I have a couple of questions though...

1: How long is long enough? I'm not looking to be Gandalf, but it should be more than just stubble. 8mm? 10mm? 14mm?

2: Is there any way to soften the ends after trimming? My missus has very sensitive skin and she's not the greatest fan of it at the moment.

    1) If you're measuring it in mm... it's too short.

    2) Don't trim until it gets to Taliban regulation

Let it grow out a bit, when it's growing out from being cut with a razor all the hairs are the same length. It'll get softer.

So did you guys regularly trim yours as it was growing or did you just let it go mental and see where it took you?

Nice. Good to know I've been cultivating a beard with a proper name. All hail the Zappa :)

Re trimming, I still see mine as an experiment. Basically if I'm going somewhere fancy I'll trim it to as short as 3mm, and other times I'll just trim it at the lip line and let the rest grow. I'm not going for a handlebar here (yet).

I've got a decent little beard, always keep it relatively short though mainly because I think it gets a bit scruffy when its longer. Been attempting to grow a good beard essentially all my adult life and I do actually get beard compliments regularly enough.

As strange as it sounds (or not in a beard positive thread) if someone has a beard I'm just inclined to like them more.

This except now I have a lot of white/grey in the mix as well!
add to that my stubble is thick in some areas and not others I keep clean shaven or maybe 2/3 days of stubble before shaving.

Am I supposed to start combing it at some point? It's starting to grow in all sorts of different directions. lol

Maybe I should use some wax or something!
