Nice. CoD2 is still one of my fave games.

Infinity Ward back at the helm.

Cool, hopefully they'll pull it off. 'Nam would be better than present day, I've yet to find a decent Vietnam FPS
  • Deleted user 25 April 2007 14:47:05
Hmmm. The thing is that modern day conflict doesn’t work in the same way as WW2 conflict, which is why most of the modern conflict type game are highly tactical squad based affairs. The whole joy of CoD is it’s a fairly linear FPS with a fancy WW2 setting to make it more fun. That said, the joy of novelty of killing Nazis has definitely worn off now, I struggle to remember when it was ever fun. Dunno, will reserve judgment for now.

Yea, killing Ger... Nazis is great, but it was getting old.

    +1 for the Vietnam suggestion

They're churning out this series at a rate of knots now aren't they. I remember when CoD was considered a rather hardcore alternative to Day Of Defeat.

If you'll allow me to troll for a moment: at least this one can't be any worse than the previous boreathons.

    Haven't played 1, loved 2, disappointed with 3
  • Deleted user 25 April 2007 15:11:17
You should play 1, it's the best, although may have lost most of its impact by now.

the online in COD3 was fucking amazing - 24 players and vehicles - hope they keep this up for the new one.

    You dare to strike Scurrcules!?

We've spoken about WW1 games on here before IIRC, I think the general consensus was the gameplay might be a bit limited:

    -Mission 1 Begins

NPC - "Come on lads! Everyone over the top or I'll shoot you myself!"

    /gets shot to ribbons

    -Retry from last Checkpoint?

Modern setting, 24+ players, different vehicles...sounds a bit familiar?

You could say the same about a realistic Vietnam game as well though. Where’s the fun in trudging through rainforest for months without shooting a thing before getting blown up by a trap?

Yeah but without all the bugs and patches that destroy the game that is battlefield 2 (PC version - console versions don't deserve the BF2 NAME!)

    You dare to strike Scurrcules!?

    Yeah, true enough

I'm waiting for CoD5:Conscientious Objector, in which you fake tuberculosis and flat feet, and escape to Canada :)

Why can't they set it in WWI? Lots of people know what went on in WWII, but despite there being a lack of aircraft and tanks, WWI is very interesting as well. And you've got all the trenches and rats and other WWI things. They could include a mini-game where you are one of the boys who assassinates Franz Ferdinand as well! Yup, I want 4 or 5 to be set in 1914.

Try Iron Storm for da PC, WW1 that never finished. It rough but good in places.

Your shitty thread doesn't even have a link to the COD4 trailer. That's right run along and go get a link...go on.
  • Deleted user 28 April 2007 11:39:59
So when that automated thread locking thing says that other CoD4 thread has been 'Merged' with another (this one), what it actually means is 'The original thread has been deleted and now you can go to the other one'?

    Bah!

Wasn't Battlefield 2 subtitled 'Modern Warfare' too?

Hum, anyway, thought the trailer was fairly dull meself, many of the scenes in it are things gamers have seen hundreds of times by now. However, given that Call of Duty 2 on the PC was one of my favourite FPS's of the last few years, and Infinity Ward are once again back in charge of development for this game, I expect goodness. Much goodness.

I think the trailer looks pretty ace myself, I liked the shot of the soldiers inside the plane, don't think I've ever actually been inside a plane in a game before! :s As long as it's better than CoD3 (which shouldn't be hard) it'll be fine.

I wonder if they'll keep the frantic linear style progression through a level like before, or if they'll add in squad commands and stuff?

Modern Combat is the console version of the game.
  • Deleted user 28 April 2007 11:51:02
Meh. I don't want squad commands.

Well, apart from one to say 'Stay the feck here rather than following me!'

/Remembers trying to stealthily flank the bunker at the top of that hill in CoD only to turn around and find ten soldiers merrily trotting after him
