Okay. made a bit of money and want a new console. My love affair with the PS2 has resulted in me going through 4 consoles in 7 years and the final one is spluttering. (Original design not slimline rubbish.)

So. To me the Xbox 360 looks like a winner because:

    - The Wii software seems to be a rip off. There is no way on earth that I will pay £100 for a game in a bundle.

    - The PS3 is too expensive and i reckon Blue Ray is a dead duck and from what I've heard about reliability.....dont really want the hassle.

    - I wanna go into some online gaming and so need a console with a reliable network.

    - Crucially, GTA is exremely important to me and the 360 is a cheaper way to access the game when it comes out.

Is this sane thinking or am I mental?

Can't fault most of your logic, except for the PS3 reliability bit. It's a shite side better than the 360 in this department, although newer 360's are probably safe enough. Plus, BR is far from a dead duck at this juncture. It's all up in the air at the mo.

I'd say go for it if you want one. You know the answer better than any of us will.

I thought this was going to be a parody thread of the current PS3 flamefest.

I dont know whether to be dissapointed or not....somebody tell me?

Given that you only play GTA, you may as well get a PS3. Then at least you'll be able to play all your old GTAs while you wait for the new GTA.

I think we ought to wait a few more months before we make these sorts of statements!

By that logic, he could get an 360 and another 2nd hand PS2 for at least a £100 less than a PS3.

True. Yes, that's probably better. :-)

I turned on a brand new 360 yesterday, and it started showing graphical corruption on the system blades during the initial set-up. :)

Nothing more than a gut feeling...

I do play other stuff too. I love strategy games like CIV games on PC and Midnight Club games. I've also played a demo of Crackdown which looks pretty good.

    Buy one.

What the hell, you might get run over by a bus tomorrow but at least you'd get to have that playing with a new toy experience before you cark it.

    I'd go with a gizmondo.

There are no good games for it and it's dead in the water, but at least the fact you have no hands won't be an issue.

    - PS3 is too expensive but Blue-Ray is moving ahead of HD-DVD however neither are anywhere near DVD sales

    - Xbox Live - Best thing about the Next-Gen

    - GTA - Yeah thats true

Sounds like you had the decision made already or are easily swayed.

In that case can I interest you in a '97 Ford Escort - one careful lady owner, kept in a garage overnight. Don't worry about the weld mark around the middle that'll polish out.

Only 2 player co-op. Look out for All Points Bulletin though. It's a GTA style MMOG from the developers wot made Crackdown. One to keep an eye on now.

    As a 360 owner i'm biased but......

if you're based in Europe, you should know that the EURO PS3's are technically different to the rest of the world. Sony removed the backwards compatibility emulator chips on cost saving grounds and this means PS2 games will suffer on EURO PS3's.

If you're after the best online experience, Xbox Live is head and shoulders above Sony's offering the current offering of 360's are much more reliable that the oringinal ones.

The real quesiton is whether to buy a premium or an elite!

Most people that start these kinds of threads usually fit this description. They're looking for a final bit of validation from their peers in order to justify their imminent and long-desired purchase. He got what he wanted and now he can buy happy! Good luck to him I say.

/tempted to regail the OP with numerous personal anecdotal 360 horror stories that may or may not be made up

When's the elite actually out ? If its no more than a few months I'd recommend you wait. The 360 is just beginning to come into its prime, but all the big name stuff is still a few months off, so if you can, wait.

I *think* a 360 crashing regularly, whether the game is pushing it or not, is on its way out.
