Yeah, I've got a Netgear router, and while it's working without problems now, setting it up was a bit of a nightmare (as was the unhelpful support).

Wouldn't buy a Netgear router again.

Dray Tek or D-link have given me the least problems, get a wireless bridge for your PS3 if the internal wireless card reception is a little flaky

    I have one of these:

    http://www.netgear.co.uk/rangemaxnext_wirelessrouters_wnr854t.php

Incredibly reliable (no downtime in months), handles heavy torrenting use well and even looks pretty swanky.

We have a Netgear DG834G, never had any problems with it at all and would recommend it.

    Bumpybump.

Right, one of my wireless routers is acting up atm so I'm looking to replace it. Any good routers out there? Should have a good wifi connection and at least 4gb wired connections (it's my telly router).

Looking at this one atm, is it any good?

Heh, well, it's a media router so the juniper is a bit overkill but the other one is very interesting. \0/

Linksys WRT54g...cheap as chips and does everything most people need of a router.

I work for a research company in the field of mobile comms and networking and we only use these routers for our test-beds.

    and you can do this

Yes, installing DD-WRT is the first thing you should do, but it can be beyond some people's comfort zone. Even with its default firmware, the WRT54g is a decent and robust router.

Apparently the Netgear rangemax Routers aren't compatible with the PS3 and the connection always drops as i have found with my Netgear DG834PN

Right, found the Wireless 300N XR Gigabit Gaming Router for a bargain price. So far so good, gives me excellent performance on both the wired and wireless. It also however gives a ton of new settings to tinker away with that the old routers didn't have. Does anyone know a good guide that goes in-depth about what settings are good for what? I.e. I know what most things like WISH and such do but what would be the best setting for xbl i.e.?

The documentation in the box is as good as useless, it only covers basics but no explanation of the settings, let alone how they will influence what connection type.

Works better with the PS3 than the Xbox360.

Our Netgear hates my PS3; it's worked fine with the DS, Wii, PSP, 360 and the PCs, but refuses to work full-stop with my iMac and persistently drops the connection to PSN. I've heard lots of other folks have had problems with certain Netgears and PSN, so I'd suggest going with something else.

I've been using the router my broadband supplier provided me for years never really thinking about it. Now though I want to set up a fast wireless network for file sharing. There's an XP desktop which will be wired via ethernet as will my PS3 and Vista laptop. My Macbook Pro and iPhone will be the only devices using wireless. I need something quick because I want to use NAS that all the various devices can share from.

I've been reading a lot of reviews of various routers but can't get any clear indication of which is the fastest. There are various standards which I don't understand. Any suggestions?

Guys, please excuse the stupid question but I really have no idea.

I got a router for literally the first time today. I'm all set up but I am connecting a wireless modem via WAN, and my question is... which needs to be in the optimal spot signal wise: the Router or the Wireless modem? Both have little antennas, but which should get precedence?

@Zizoo There are a number of ways to set up your network. What country are you in? ISP? Modem and router types?

If your modem has wifi, it will also have a built in router. Is there a reason you have another router?

Hey guys, should I buy one of those new AC routers or stick with N for the time being? I don't have any AC devices yet but don't want to buy a new router in 2 years. Then again, the AC thing isn't finalised yet either. Help me EG-one, you're my only hope.

Btw this is not only for ps3 , this was the first thread that popped up in the search.
