Right chaps, got off my arse and created a team for us

    Team Name: Eurogamer
    Team Number: 59094

To join the team, just put the team number in the team field and click OK.

What difference does being in a team actually make? Is it just that it groups the results of that team?

It's a bit pointless, you basically just get 'team results' and 'team rankings' alongside your own individual ones.

But hey, come on - we'll thrash the NTSC-UK'ers and RMMJUKMJJKMUK guys ;)

well, it ranks the teams on how many total work unit's they done.

It's not the most exciting thing in the world, but it's for a good cause and I doubt we'll amount many work units on our own, so why not!

Give it time I guess. Also, I've noticed some people have set the team homepage to google so they can follow the link and therefore surf the net with the Folding@Home thing still going in the background :)

It's quite a nice application, very well written and definitely very pretty. Are the dots on the map now showing actual PS3 locations, or are they still there for show?

Heh, this is the second time today I've just left my PS3 on running the folding app. The earth rotating is kinda mesmerising. :)

Of course, being cynical about it all this is probably a great way of ensuring my PS3 burns out ahead of it's time!

    Yeh. I'll join.

    I love Folding@home. It's a really nice little free, and good-deed app.
It's great, I lvoe the massive globe you can spin around to see online units around the world.

There is now talk of a petition to get it on 360. Ahem, although obviously the processing power isn't quite as powerful, ahem.

Bugger, I only just found this thread. Hopefully my nearly completed work unit will be accounted for in full with the EG team.

    p.s. Isn't this worth a sticky?

    http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/25/ps3s-already-pwning-folding-home-leaderboard-tonights-foldatho/

Well we knew that the Cell processor -- which makes the PS3 a pretty cheap supercomputer, along with its myriad other roles -- was well suited to the task of crunching numbers for Stanford's Folding@Home project, but there's no way we could have expected the unbelievable impact made by 35,000 some gamers in only a few days. In what can only be described as a total hijacking of the leaderboard, PS3s are currently accounting for 734 of the 990 teraflops Folding processes at peak capacity; in other words, Cell processors have more than tripled the project's power even though they only account for around 13% of the total machines grinding away at any given time. Now keep in mind that Sony's boxes have only been pitching in since midweek, and with tonight's Sunday Night Foldathon -- an event which encourages PS3 owners to simultaneously run the app while they sleep -- we should see even more impressive performance as the slumbering masses donate record numbers of cycles. This would also probably be a good time to direct you towards instructions for joining Team Engadget, as well as to suggest that even though this is primarily PS3-centric, that shouldn't stop other PC-equipped team members and owners of even bigger supercomputers (we're looking at you, IBM) from participating.

I've signed up to the Eurogamer Team but for some reason folding wasnt downloading, will try again tonight.

Well yeah I thought that was the point? I thought it used idle processor time? If not then maybe I won't join as I don't want a big electricity bill.
