...yeah, sometimes i wish that we were in the same region as america, we do speak english after all, and when most games do come here, we still get z instead of s's anyways

It's a good job that the majority of Japanese men have small dicks.

Seriously there's quite a lot of text in Super Paper Mario and it all has to be converted into the relevant European regional lingo for each country. It's the same situation that we had with Animal Crossing. Keep an eye out for the Australasia PAL release date.

Not to mention that not only does it have to be translated, the humour has to be kept in those translations. Which is pretty difficult really.

How much earlier did the Aussies (who I presume don't have the multiple languages included) get Animal Crossing?

I got my GC Animal Crossing from Oz before Nintendo were finally persuaded to release it here, it was about 9 months beforehand I seem to recall.

What REALLY pisses me off with translations from the English NTSC to PAL is the fact that words like 'centre' retain their Yank spelling, ie. center. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

It's getting worse now. As an English teacher, I find that, aside from correcting the barrage of TXT SPK teh KIDZ r now usin' in thr wrk, I am having to correct Americanisms such as center, and, *shudder*, donut.

Do you even get marked down for spelling and puncutation that much nowadays? When I did them (only about 7 odd years ago, mind) you could get away with a fair bit.

When I was at uni, they made us do our projects and experiment write-ups in American English because it's the international standard :-(

There was an entire topic dedicated to the bastardization (:D) of the English language. Anyone care to find it? I feel like contributing.

You know, within 25 years, the majority of people will refer to the language as "American."

Teach them the grand Irish phrases, made popular by Jim from Coronation Street:

Top 'O the mornin to ya
    Catch yourself ahhn.

    ...and so on.

Even region-free mod chips are currently only really working on NTSC consoles, so it might not be as easy as one might think.

How long after GC launch did the first Freeloader arrive?

So, about 1,25 years after launch? That does not sound like "real soon now".

Everytime this thread gets bumped I get all excited that someone might have found a release date. Then the disappointment sets in.

Well, about .75 years after the PAL launch. :)

edit: actually, maybe even less than that. When did the GC launch here? In the May?

    I'm absolutely loving SPM.

It sucks theres no PAL release date... sort it out Nintendo... the NTSC version already contains both ENG/FRE surely it can't be that hard to finish off the localisation with it being text based and all.
