So, PoA is playing downloaded beta code? Or a pre-release disc made available for press?

    Final, not beta.

That metal case version looks fancy eh? Might order me one of those just to get the map. Shame it's not cloth like you used to get in RPGs.

Which means it will be download-able on Tuesday for all those naughty people.

Just flipping typical, after being unemployed and sitting around the house with nothing to do for the last 3 months, I start a new job on Monday, thus missing the opertunity to blot out the horror of day time TV with radioactive russia.

I am so close to ordering it right now from Play.com. But I really need to read a proper review first. EG maybe, or EDGE..

Same here, I had really prettty much "forgotten" about it until all these good previews started to appear a few months ago, now I am really looking forward to it again.

It's just great that they apparently managed to make a very good game after all these years. Bit unexpected. :)

With this and SH4 out on the same day, I think I can feel a bout of flu coming on next week. ¬_¬

I trust the PC Zone and Gamer scores more than GamesTM's review. The screenies in GTM are mostly from the early levels and they don't address many of the flaws.

In the LTD edition it says...

    Special Features:
    Special limited edition tin box
Bonus DVD - includes exclusive footage, 360 screens, imagery, music and behind the scenes information
Survival Guide (paper part) - 50 page artbook detailing factions, mutants, weapons and more found in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Pack A 'Pool' - 1 Multiplayer Map + 2 skins (US and UK). MP map includes Deathmatch mode. Players 2-6. Small map with the combat taking place on the territory of a desolated pool with close in combat along corridors.
Pack B 'Dark Valley' - 1 Multiplayer Map + 2 skins (French and German. MP map includes Team Death Match, Artifact Hunt. Players 2-16. Large map with combat taking place on the administrative institution area within one of the deserted factories filled with warehouses.
Zone Map (Paper part) - game world map including flagged points of interest.

Do you get those multiplayer map things in the vanilla version? Just wondering whether there's any need to get it myself.

Or are the extras just a few things that are going to sit in my cupboard unused like the Oblivion DVD?

It's been eating up GSC Game World's development budget for six bloody years!

It's been vaporware for so long and the fact that it's emerged out of the dank pit, actually quite good too has got to be worth a purchase sirley?

Downloading it from a torrent site that has 'spies' in it. I shall now feebly attempt to justify my obscene act by saying that I have had the game pre-ordered since 2004, and I'm getting a weeny bit impatient now.

You may now proceed to chastise me

Completed it last night. The last levels are mental, but it's a bit disappointing because by the time you get to Pripyat and Chernobyl you have to rush to get to the reactor, so there's no time to look around, and Pripyat is the only level with a proper city. There's not enough exploration.
Get a couple of funky weapons too, like that cool sci-fi gun seen in some promo shots, but only at the very last minute - never really get a chance to use them. I did rush it though, so I might have missed a chance to pick them up earlier.

Is it possible that you've just spoiled more in a single post than 6 years of previews ever did?

Not too keen on reading about the ending/final levels of a game that's not even out yet.

Unless you consider the revelation that you get better guns later on to be a spoiler, I can't see anything there that would ruin the ending.

The weapon is not what I meant. Aynway, if it's not a spoiler, fair enough, hence the question mark.

If it is though, it'd be fair to edit your post and add spoiler warnings.

Ain't no spoilers there. I couldn't really spoil it even if I tried though since I [possible spoiler] only got one of the weak non-ending-endings.

I've waited six years since it was announced and three years since pre-ordering, I could download it in about an hour but I think I can wait a few days until the tin box lands on my doorstep.

    +seventeen billion.

My copy should be with me on Thursday, along with my limited edition SH4.

I'm intrigued by the game concept. I might wait for metaboli to have it, though of course there the downside is the lack of mod compatibility, which is nearly a deal breaker. wish they'd get a solution for that.
