Can I play Call of Pripyat if I don't remember a single thing about the previous 2 games?

@SuperBas - yeah, COP is much more standalone.

Got to the very end of Clear Sky and have to say it's total gobshite. Wall to wall insta-death Monolith troopers and a neverending corridor run. Not much fun and a pants way to end what was otherwise a good (modded) game imo. Not going to bother finishing it tbh, would rather play COP again. :)

Just get a trainer or stick some cheats on or something just to see it through. But the hospital bit at the end was bullshit though.

Just finished the original game today. Very nice game, the last segment was a bit poor though, I felt they could have done a lot more with it than send a fuckton of enemies your way. Weird game overall. It was amazing at parts, but it felt like it was part military shooter, and part survival horror. It went from shootouts with bandits in warehouses, to shooting zombies and supernatural nonsense. The game world was also nowhere near as big as it seemed like it was going to be.

Are the others worth playing? orpheus hasn't exactly sold Clear Sky to me!

They were never that good at finishing the games. Going from a non-linear, almost open world to a shaky linear game wasn't going to be easy, but it was always a ludicrously hard letdown.

Yeah, if SOC's the same or similar then I guess all three have a certain amount of enemy spam at the end. I didn't notice it anywhere near as much in COP, but I had much better equipment by then - in Clear Sky I pushed too far too fast I think (still wearing the Sunrise suit by the time you have to shoot Strelok on the walkways). Think Dirtbox hit it on the head, it's just a bit of a letdown.

Ecureuil - I don't mean to hammer Clear Sky unnecessarily though! The ending's a bit bullet spam but the rest was pretty good (with the Complete mod). From what I gather, the unmodded Clear Sky was the worst of the bunch so mods essential for that one.

I'd highly recommend COP and Pavel's Call of Pripyat Complete mod, it was the first one I played and it hooked me completely. Better atmosphere, nice big areas and more overall polish. I'm going to pick up SOC later today to complete my set.

Finally I've grown enough balls to play Stalker. I've got as far as the army warehouse, freedom guys and I think the monolith chaps. But i've hit a few bugs such as protect the border missions and one with Max and his freedom guys.

I was wondering if it's worth restarting with the Stalker Complete 2009 mod. Anyone tried it? Does it clear up these glitches?

Well worth it, I couldn't play the vanilla games anymore - the Complete mods are a must have.

That was excellent. SOC is a bloody good game. I wish I experienced more inter-faction fights. From the professor meeting I kinda stuck to the central path. Even so, that run through had a ton of atmosphere.

The L.U.R.K. mod has been updated to 1.1 as of several months ago. It's time for my annual playthrough and as Stalker mods go, it's better than Complete.

Would that be the only mod I would need to install then? Thinking about picking this up after all the good things I've heard about it.

Pretty much, you'll want to try others at some point. Although it's worth playing through vanilla at least once.

Ah, ok then. I thought the mods were a must because the game was pretty buggy?

Watch the original Tartovsky movie 'Stalker' (based on the book 'Roadside Picnic', though iirc the game borrows more from the movie than the book) for free on google video, courtesy of RPS:

Just massacred that bandit camp. Basically I just hid behind one of the shelves next to the stairs and dropped each idiot one after the other as they came down the stairs to their doom.

    Love this game.

New SoC mod nearing release. Explains RPS:
Lost Alpha is an ambitious mod for Shadow of Chernobyl that aims to recreate all the content that was cut from the game between alpha and release. New (old) areas and new (old) mutants are the main additions, with the bulk of the mod being recreations of the cut locations. The team are aiming to stick as close to the original versions of the cut content as they can based on known info and itís all looking mighty impressive.
at the article about the project you can find the trailer and a link to an FAQ as well.

I remember that, you get a Geiger counter in it, and the case itself is radioactive.

A bit of a bump. What's the go-to mod for this at the moment? I've re-bought this in the Steam sale an I'm looking at the complete mod.

Bought this in the steam sale... It's good but bloody hell, it's hard. I'm a few missions in and am constantly getting my arse handed to me. Any vets care to share some tips?

Take it slow and aim for what looks like the head.

If you can avoid a hairy situation, do.

In the beginning, stay away from the military.

Don't play it on the TV with surround sound, as the mutant dogs sound real enough to make the dog go mental.

The last one may not apply to everyone.

The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine.
