What do you think? I think it is pure dope, one of the best tracks in years. Like the minimalist video as well, nice stroll through compton in the middle of the night.

    Both verses are near perfection.

Could live without the bridge is over being dumped randomly over it.

My opinion hasn't changed since the last time you posted it.

Without clicking the link, I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and ask if it might be that guy from Clipse?
  • Deleted user 7 October 2013 07:52:47
    What was your opinion then?

    You suck
  • Deleted user 7 October 2013 08:02:56
I agree, I don't have the voice or look for it.

This track though, except on eg hip hop thread, is getting mad love.

It does raise a semi-interesting point about the state of moden hip-hop in that when a mainstream tune comes out that doesnt have a Hype Williams video attached to it, people flip their wigs like its the second coming of Realus.

'OMG! HES JUST WALKING THROUGH COMPTON! ITS THE REALEST THING EVER!'

What's a dude from the 'ginia scene doing taking a walk through Compton?
  • Deleted user 7 October 2013 08:32:27
It just shows how terrible hip hop is in general. Most videos just have naked girls and lots of jewellery so I think people, myself included, just want a simple video like this with the two artists just rapping.

This video could have done with another take though.
  • Deleted user 7 October 2013 09:29:05
Not most videos. Just most commercial stuff.

As for my opinion, quite like the beat, not what I call skilled lyricism though.

I think hip-hop is in a pretty decent state at the minute - you just hate to look a little under the surface imo.

Danny Brown, El-P, Killer Mike, Chance the Rapper, Death Grips, L.W.H, Roots, Shabazz Palaces etc. have all put out some great material over the last couple of years.

Edit - Realised you were only taking about the video, apologies!

New Split Prophets EP, couple of nice tracks on here. "Smokey Smokey" is probably the best (for me anyway)

Goddamn High Focus are putting out good music atm

Verb T - Where you find me
  • Deleted user 14 October 2013 15:31:16
It's a very good album, probably Verb's best.

Just been listening to Cuban Linx 1. Such a ridiculously good album. One of the few I always come back to on a regular basis.

Nas' verse on Verbal Intercourse always gets at least one rewind. It's unbelievable.

Raekwon/Ghostface - amazing combo and their styles mesh perfectly.

CLII is probably my favourite Raekwon LP though; it still amazes me how good it turned out.

Let's hope the wait for CLIII isn't as long.

It really is. One of his best, and it works so well on that beat.

    Wicked.

Nas is just so good to listen to. Ridiculous skills, but quite natural with it as well. Most incredibly technical rhymers are almost hard to listen to because their flow is so intense, but Nas is just effortless with it. The skllls are there but he doesn't shove it in your face. He's great.

Have you ever heard his sort of demo album pre-Illmatic? I only came across it recently.

I'm clearly late to the party :) First I'd heard of it a few weeks ago

Most of those guys like Nas and Biggie did a tonne of stuff before they finally got to make proper albums. Mixtape stuff - rhymes over other people's instrumentals. Most of it is on You Tube.

hey wait. The verse on the Raekwon track is off that Nasty Nas thing! I did not know that either.
  • Deleted user 14 October 2013 17:23:28
It all crops up again somewhere. Most of it is on Illmatic.
  • Deleted user 15 October 2013 09:30:37
I'm on a Nas binge now.

Just went back through the catalogues to be reminded that I Am and Nastradamus are really terrible albums, and even It Was Written is extremely patchy. You really might as well go straight from Illmatic to Stillmatic.

However, the big secret is that The Lost Tapes is the best Nas album after Illmatic. Big gap if you don't have it.

Wish I had the time to discover good current hip-hop, feel like such an old man rocking the same stuff I used to listen too in my teens (early to mid 90's was the best though).

Btw have they released any of the new Deltron yet?
  • Deleted user 15 October 2013 23:26:41
Nas life is good is up there.

Eminem, first two singles off new lp I hate. I also hated his last album BUT the third single 'rap god', holy virgin Mary, it is insane. Like the beat or not it is mad skills.
