Listening to Leaders of the New School today. I feel a bit sorry for the dudes who are just so clearly living in Busta's shadow. There was a documentary about Yo! MTV Raps ages ago where they showed some clips of the shows with LotNS on it, and they basically recorded the break up of the group happening right in front of them

edit - here it is (awful quality) - http://www.eurogamer.net/forum/thread/75473?start=4170#latest-post

I know Busta always stood out, but I thought they were all decent emcees in their own right. I liked Dinco's voice and delivery in particular, it's a shame he never did anything after LoNS.

Nice verse from Chester. Something not quite right about seeing him read rhymes off a Blackberry though...

I seemed to have made an error, when Jay Z Magna Carta came out I briefly listened and thought it was pretty shit.

Well got it yesterday anyway and DAYMN! it is heavy, some serious production. Jay Z maybe slightly lazy but of course that is still better than 98% of other rappers.

    Personal highlights are FUCKWITHMEYOUKNOWIGOTIT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEBl0lBC2zM
    and holy grail.

The thing is that radio is completely redundant when it comes to the way young people listen to music now! 1xtra has like 7,000 listeners!? =/

It might be now, but it certainly wasn't around the late 90s when the UK scene most needed promoting.

    Love this. Epic tune.

High Focus are really putting in the work at the moment. Pretty much every decent UK release I've got in the last year has been through them. Leaf Dog is basically the new Jehst - relentlessly productive and featuring on almost literally everything. And very good.

I got his album Return of the Twat where that tune is from, definitely worth picking up
  • Deleted user 27 August 2013 09:55:26
    Got it :)

If you like the Brothers of the Stone album is similar and probably a bit better imho.

I'm a bit late to the party but Pete Cannon makes some fucking slamming beats doesn't he.

I don't really like that "ver ver ver voo voo voo" type beat that's so popular at the moment tbh. Gives me a headache. Made me despise the latest Foreign Beggars album.

Pete, I think it was you posted that brilliant YC The Cynic album in here a while ago.

His new one, GNK, came out this week and it's really good.

S'alright. Not as ver ver ver voo voo voo as something like this:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rkWk3G_0xk

(Wait for the chorus to kick in)

I dunno. Give me a boom bap and a classic soul/funk/jazz hook and I'm happy. I'm not saying that's literally all I like, but I'm not mad about the influence dubstep has had on hip hop recently.

Christ I didn't realise Foreign Beggars had gone like that.
  • Deleted user 28 August 2013 15:37:11
It actually hurts me. The whole album is like that. Even the third album kind of touched on being a bit like that, but was still hip-hoppy, but the new stuff is genuinely offensive.

To think they used to do stuff like this:
