Really like this TingTryer album Take Me To Your Leader.
They're a Hip Hop/R&B collective and the album is great.
Pay what you want free too.

Digital Bullet by RZA is one of the best albums ever. The perfect rap/hip hop album imo. Not over-produced, tight rhymes and flow, and the featuring artists are perfect.

Yeah, Digital Bullet is a really good album. Very "slept on". I like Bobby Digital as well.

New Foreign Beggars is a bit wank. Hate the production yet again. What is going on with the UK stuff at the moment? It all sounds like shit. I swear Grime was the worst thing to happen to the UK Hip Hop scene.

Given up on the new stuff, been going through 90's/early noughties stuff for any gems I might have missed. Hate the production on most stuff nowadays, I call it hip pop as that's exactly what it is, produced in the same way as pop but with a hip hop/rap slant. Whatever happened to looping a sample, adding a drum beat and some bass?

A shame that RZA got drawn away from his style to the newer style on his two albums after Bullet, no surprise that they were really disappointing.

There is a huge amount of good hip hop still being made. It's just gone underground again.

Not strictly hip hop but was found on a hip hop website. Sorry if it's been posted already.

On topic: Going to see Public Enemy at the end of this month. Should be really good!

One of those bands I've meant to check out. The dude's always entertaining when I hear him guest on other artist's stuff.

Does anyone know what this Tribe Called Quest - Abstract Revelations album is? Seems to have appeared all over torrent sites yesterday.

It's surely not the new album supposedly being worked on...

I'm making an "Intro to Hip Hop" mix for someone at the moment, I've got the majority of the track list sorted out. I've gone for most era's to get a good spread of how it's evolved.

Can anyone think of any good introductory tracks to the genre for inclusion? I might have missed some obvious ones.

NB: Probably not a good idea to post the current list as it stands, it's already become a heated debate topic with some folks I know. So on EG it'll become...well, it would just be a bad idea. :)

    Cheers!

If you don't like Electric Relaxation by Tribe, and Passing Me By by Pharcyde, then you don't like Hip Hop.

    Snake Eyes by Main Source

It's the best rap record ever.

    Probably

Yeah, his roots are definitely showing.

I was thinking it'd have to go some to be my fave of 2012, tbh. And it has. Whoop. What a beast. :D

    @kalel

Already got that particular Tribe one on there. Pharcyde: I've got Runnin' instead of Passing Me By.

    Thanks for the tips though!

    Included any British rap?

Money Mad or How's Life In London by London Posse or Witness by Roots Manuva.

Hip Hop by Dead Prez would be pretty essential too I'd say.

    Brap, brap, old chap.

You would have to have something by Eric B and Rakim, I would say Microphone Fiend, Don't Sweat The Technique, or I Know You Got Soul

Times Up by OC is, I think, my all time favourite hip hop track

The whole album is pretty good.

It's loosely a hip hop tribute to Hunter S. Thompson.
