Can't wait for the Fashawn & Murs album.

So many great albums to look forward to this year and it's already been one of the best years I can remember for hip hop.

The new Casual & J. Rawls album came out yesterday. It's pretty damn good. Only a small handful of tracks I don't absolutely love.

New video (with Del) to accompany the release:

    Right?

I like him in places, but often his quality control is patchy, like he's trying to get everything he ever puts on tape out there.

New - sort of, but actually leaked unmixed ages ago - Blu & Exile album, Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them should emerge today, in full form. Looking forward to it, their first record, Below The Heavens, is an absolute corker...

I recently made a playlist at the request of a mate who is only about 20 and so hadn't heard much UK Hip Hop, but was really into his Grime.

Seems a pretty good place to start if you are genuinely interested in it:
London Posse - Gangster Chronicle (1990)
Outlaw Posse - My Afros On Fire (1990)
Ruthless Rap Assassins - The Killer Album (1990)
Katch 22 - Diary Of A Black Man Living In The Land Of The Lost (1991)
Demon Boyz - Original Guidance (1992)
Taskforce - New Mic Order (1999)
    Mark B & Blade - The Unknown (2000)
    Skitz - Countryman (2001)
Roots Manuva – Brand New Second Hand (2001)
    TY - Awkward (2001)
    Aspects - Correct English (2001)
    Braintax - Biro Funk (2002)
Jehst – Return Of The Drifter (2002)
Foreign Beggars - Asylum Speakers (2003)
    Fallacy - Blackmarket Boy (2003)
Skinnyman - Council Estate of Mind (2004)
Klashnekoff - The Sagas of... (2004)
    Kyza - The Experience(2006)
    Chester P - From the Ashes (2008)
You should add Lewis Parker to that list.

I was expecting to be torn to shreds for that list. One missing album isn't too bad. :)

I like the lead Murs & Fashawn single, I think the album will be brilliant:

New Klashnekoff album out today. Not really listened properly to it yet but a quick browse listen reveals slight meh-ness. Weak production.

I don't really get how such great MCs can accept shit beats. Jehst is a prime example. Probably the best in the UK, and I would personally put him near the top globally. But from the 2nd album onwards the beats have been (mostly) a load of unlistenable shit

Think it's quite important that Hip Hop has begun to shake it's prejudices recently not only with this Murs track from earlier in the year:

But also B. Dolan calling out the culture in this:

Both brilliant tunes in my opinion.

    Seriously tempted by that.

Going to see B. Dolan and Sage Francis on Thursday in Reading. Still tickets, though I'm not sure they are your sort of thing if I'm honest.

Actually that was a stupid question, Sub 89 is basically the only live music venue left. And I can't see them playing Yates' somehow

I wouldn't know. The last gig I went to in Reading was De La Soul at Fez and that was a good 5 years ago.

    This is awesome too

Basically 3 DJs have compiled the samples used in Paul's Boutique and created a mixtape from them.

    It's bloody great.

What's this Talib Kweli mixtape about? I read about it yesterday but saw you slating it, Blaketown. A rap cover of REM does pretty 'interesting'.

It's free so feel free to check it out.

I thought it was rubbish though and that REM song was the icing on the shitchake.

Odd, as Z-Trip is a great DJ and I was looking forward to the Attack The Block Skits (love that film).

Paul's Boutique is probably the best album ever so I'll all over that.

That DJ Woody mix I linked is some seriously clever shit. On a second listen I've spotted loads of clever little bits where he switches up drum loops that I didn't spot the first time. Really clever. It's like quotes within quotes. It's all classic tunes that everyone will know on the outside, but some serious stuff under the surface for the heads. One of the best mixes I've heard.

    He's brilliant.

I have a mix by him & DJ Vadim called Lettuce Propelled Rockets and it is one of my favourite mixes ever. Listen to it all the time.
