I don't think the 7200rpm makes any difference whatsoever. can't remember why.Possibly it is limited in some way

If you're going 7200 for the speed benefit, don't bother it's minimal.

The 7200 will be hotter, which will cause the main console fan to kick in earlier and be on for longer, so if you hat fan noise stick with 5400

    Hello good people...
My 40gb phat has finally run out of space. When upgrading the internal storage, will either of the following things make any difference - 5400 vs 7200 rpm / 8mb vs 16mb cache?
    Thinking this .

£28.32 for a 250gb is pretty good but search around and you can probably get more GB's for your pound...

    This...

    Or this... Is good.

EDIT: I brought one of the WD 320gb drives a few months after I brought my Launch 60GB PS3 and its still going strong.

Are solid state drives a possibility yet?
or are they still just to expensive?

    Cheer for the infos, peeps.

Think I'll go with that £35 WD 320gb from Play actually cos I have vouchers - Play credit card FTW! Weirdly they didn't even enter my head when thinking about this, so cheers, KJ! Think 320 will be more than adequate :)

Equivalent-ish SSD is eye-wateringly expensive and makes bugger all difference by the sounds of it.

Ouch. Yeah so best not go for the SSD :)

I've found 320 to be plenty to be honest. It's been in there more or less since launch, it's got 50 odd PSN games, handful of miniS, PS1/PS2 classics a chuff loads of game data from all the updates and disk install. A few of my favourite movies and music albums and I've still got 80gb left :)
Not bad for 4 or whatever years. The drive gets spun up more or less every day (in fact everyday since the PS+ auto upload option came in)
    You can't go wrong.

Quick question. I've just started 007 Bloodstone on a hd lcd tv yet in game the graphics are all fuzzy like there is static or something, yet the menus and cut scenes are fine. Is this likely to be the game ? Does it happen on other games, & is there anything i can do other than sit 20 feet away ? :(

If the menus are ok, it's probably just the game then...

It seems so as i've messed with the ps3 settings and my tv, changed the hdmi cable and checked other games and they are all smooth, even sat up close to the 37". I don't get it though because it could be a great looking game but now all i notice is the tiny pixely things moving about like its through cctv ( which it isn't ). Are there engines known for this or anything ?

is that a joke about using the phone for locational information within the game…?

For my own issue, ive recently noticed an occasional ratting noise coming from the PS3. The back plate seems to be loose, as pressing against it ceases the noise…anyone else had this?

I thinking of trying to get a replacement, since i got the PS3 last christmas…will Sony be willing to transfer my HDD…thanks to the awful copy protection i would lose loads of stuff otherwise.

Lol no it wasn't a joke and its not about using the phone.

I wouldn't expect anything from Sony but you have a chance if it isn't a year old. They don't give you your hard drive back. Best going through the retailer as well maybe. Sony tend to send dodgy refurbs.

My PS3 has stopped working; it swtiches on but has no video or audio output, and the controllers dont sync. I've tried different displays and cables; and the holding power for a system reset and nothing's changed; any ideas?
I've been having HDD-being-slow problems for a while; what are the chances replacing the HDD will make it work?
