Rail Tracker for the train widget, and Tube Alerts for the tube widgets!

@yegon - that's what I'm thinking too. Although I might get suckered into by the prospect of a new 'shiny' - I'd rather wait for the slightly enhanced 5s/6 though :)

Two year upgrades are deffo the way to go with iPhones imo. Year on year, meh, there's no great revolution and the same applies to android phones I think. It'd be an easier decision if you were gagging for LTE though I suppose.

That said, if the 5S did have a much bigger screen at a higher res I'd be tempted as I'm unlocked on a monthly rolling contract. The only thing that'd stop me was lack of jailbreak - ios7 will have to be seriously impressive to ditch jailbreak if I stick with my 5. We're talking q1/q2 2014, if at all, for jailbroken ios7 I imagine.

    /inb4 "why bother jailbreaking?"

There's a raft of reasons, and none related to piracy in my case.

Surely they won't introduce another screen size so soon?

I'd be surprised if the 6 was even a different screen size.

I agree, not likely to happen, but I'd be tempted if they did as its pretty much my only misgiving with the 5.

iPhone 6 concept with wraparound screen!

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

I'm quite interested in this talk of a stripped down iphone as well, not to mention this Apple watch that keeps getting brought up.

I wonder about this cheaper iPhone thing. Presumably, it'd involve more plastic, lower specced cameras and SoC but still run the latest iOS, whilst maintaining some degree of the traditional Apple price gouge. How low will they go? Fierce market down there against, on paper, probably much better specced Android phones.

It will still be a 'premium' product compared to most droid phones. I would be surprised if you could pick one up, initially, for less than 250.

Yeah the cheapest iphone is over 500, so they can quite easily release a "cheaper" one and it still be fucking expensive, not unlike the ipad mini.

My guess is it'll have less storage, less of the broader functionality like 4G and siri and all that, but still basically be an iphone as we know it. Maybe it has a smaller screen as well.

I suppose you can still get a 4 for just over 300, but I reckon they'll drop the 4 once the "mini" comes out.

They have reached a bit of a crossroads now. They generally keep the previous gen phone alive as the poverty option but now they have changed the form size, they really need an option to have a smaller handset.

I suppose their choice is to keep the 4 alive when the 5s comes out or to create a new, smaller phone that sits outside of the naming convention.

Wouldn't be surprised if they chose to drop the naming convention altogether like they have with the ipad.

As mentioned numerous times before, I still reckon a current sized Nano-phone would sell bucketloads. In fact, it's the perfect size for that inner pocket-pocket on your jeans.

May have been said, but I always buy Apple Care from CeX for peanuts. Care'd up multiple macs/iphone's over the years for a fraction of the price.
News to me! How is it AppleCare if Apple didn't sell it, though? I mean, what are you actually 'buying'?

Any Netflix library in the world for a couple of quid a month? Gimme!

Me too. I doubt it will change for a long time. I just don't see big-screened iPhones in Apple's future.

I don't follow - now that there's an iPhone with a normal screen, and one with a slightly longer screen that's otherwise pretty much the same size, they "need" to have a much smaller-than-normal one?

    @TarickStonefire

Oh it's completely legit. It's the stuff resellers get, you just register the code online and et voila. I've used it on a MacBook Pro, a Mac Mini, a MacBook Air and two iPhones. Had a trackpad and optical drive replaced on my old mbp with it, a brand new replacement iPhone 3G when it's headphone jack borked, and a replacement iPhone 4 when it's home button when spiffy.

Got the wife an iPhone 5 for her birthday (after suffering with a Wildfire for the last two years). Fuck me I forgot how seamless and nice the iOS experience was. Seriously tempted to take one as my free upgrade. Don't care about a newer 5S as we are at the point of minimal improvements.

iPhone 5C shall be revealed in early September!

... looks like Apple are getting inspiration from the excellent Lumia range:

    Thought I'd ask in here...

I'm completely clueless with Apple gear and the other half just had an iPad mini passed to her.

It's already got an account on it and asks for a password which she hasn't got. I'd assume wiping it and starting again with a new account is the way to go.

Though there are some pictures she wants to take off before it's wiped.

Use Flickr to put the photos your partner wishes to keep then restore the iPad mini and start afresh.

... I believe you can create a new account when you boot it up for the first time after the restoring process has finished. That way, your partner no longer has to worry about what she buys or adds to her newly passed-on iPad mini.

Can Flickr be done without an app?

Appstore is passworded and she doesn't have a password... Can't even update existing apps.

Just go on the Internet and do it, the whole Flickr thing that is.

... or do you not have Wi-Fi, which could be a problem?

    Cheers.

Got wi-fi with a decent upload speed. Will sort out my old yahoo account and sort out tomorrow.

    Painful but done.

Is there a list of must have apps?

Being able to read epub and pdf would be great.
  • Deleted user 12 August 2013 11:30:14
    Kindle app or iBooks then.

The App Store has a new to iphone apps section.

Is the wi-fi supposed to drop out when the phone locks (4s) ? It's pretty annoying as none of my notifications come through.
