They have always refused me (in London usually Ealing).

I know my friends in Tamworth occasionally get price matches though but very selectively.

Ealing GAME doesn't have any local competition so they think they can get away with it, plus the store manager there is a total cunt. I also use Uxbridge and they have a CEX next door so always price match.

They always do for me, unless the CEX price would result in GAME buying at less than they sell for. I've traded in games for over 30 before when GAME were offering about 12 and CEX were showing 32 or something on their website.
Don't you mean buying for MORE than what they sell for?

Their overpriced deposits are annoying me the most lately.

If you mean the deposits that are 20-30, then it's in place to minimise the risk of stores getting stuck with 50 odd copies of 100+ special editions of particular titles.
The original deposit customers used to frequently change their minds and just pick up the normal copy instead, but had pre-ordered the mega bucks version months ago, without much thought, because they only had to put a fiver down originally.

Does anyone actually give GAME deposits? That's absolutely nuts.

I traded some shite and they gave me two 5 deposits for free on top of the trade credit. I tried to understand how that was in some way ripping me off and I couldn't find it. They basically gave me 10 off two new games.

Can't complain with that, but that's one example of them being half decent, compared to the millions of other examples of them being grade A bellends.

That's odd. I traded in 3 games to the value of 15 on Sunday and the guy serving me said I could pre order any game I wanted for 2.50 rather than the standard 5 while trading in. Naturally I declined as I don't tend to pre order anymore.

Just bought a PS4, and thought I'd trade my 360 and game collection at Game Wood Green. When I arrived it "was too late to test the console" even though there was plenty of time left in the day.

Then they said it was too old to trade. Apparently the fan bearings wear out

Oh, and that they were going to offer me practically nothing for my games.

So I went down the road to CEX, who gave me a surprisingly good deal on the console and collection, issued voucher codes that I redeemed online. I'm not planning on stepping over the threshold of a CEX anytime soon, but there's no way I'm spending cash in Game again.

I hope you hid some pubes inside the console. CEX customers expect nothing less.

I expect them on full display, not hidden away.

I did roll the controllers around in a used Chicken Cottage carton to make them nice and greasy, but that's as far as I went.

It was the most stabby shop I've been in for a while, but that's Wood Green/Turnpike Lane in general for you.

Not sure if this has been noted here before but...
Game Gift Cards can now be redeemed online (except for pre-orders). So any trade-in stuff you have on a card can then be used to get better deals on the game website.

For a new game this equates to a ten quid saving over buying it in-store.

    Diablo on XboxDash = 60
    Diablo @ GAME in-store = 55
    Diablo @ GAME web = 44

Just thought I'd add to yesterday's post and say that 5 minutes ago, Diablo 3 turned up. 23 hour turnaround, selecting standard delivery.
    Quite impressed.

How the hell are Gamestop (in Ireland) still in business? They're charging at least 5 more than everywhere else for Destiny on the next gen consoles (they're actually 10 more expensive than a few places), and they are consistently giving less on their trade ins.

Because in places like Galway there's nowhere else really. CEX is gash, Xtravision and Smyths have limited stock, HMV have only just come back and aren't stocking much outside of big releases either at the moment, and Game are gone. So if I wanted anything even slightly obscure by Irish/European standards, and don't want to wait for an online delivery, I've got to go there. Also their 10 quid controllers are a god send in student houses for FIFA, COD etc.

Game are selling the Ps4 vanilla version for 55. Naturally the Uxbridge branch was deserted apart from staff.

Tesco are selling it for 40 in store ffs !

Yep, as LegendaryApe has said, that pretty much sums it up!

I worked for them for over five years (and now you're thinking "maybe this douche sold me a game at some point" :D), and even I had to preorder vaguely niche stuff for myself as we'd get so few copies (I'd usually know how many were coming and wanted the thing, so didn't mind plopping a few squids).

I hope this gen starts to even out a bit, price-wise. I do recall Battlefield Bad Company releasing and charging people 80 for it. worse still, people paying it, so hopefully the prices will settle a bit.

Jesus yeah, the amount of those cheap-o controllers I used to sell on Sunday to college lads! "Fuck it, sure we can call it the looser controller".
