I watched BHC 1 the other day. It was reasonably well-written, acted and you laughed when you should've done, and listened when it wanted you to. All in all it should've been the beginnings of a great trilogy. Oh, and let's not forget the soundtrack. Excellent stuff!

So the question is this: why are the other two films so shit?

There's a BHC game out soon as well as BHC4.

The best BHC is the PG-edited BBC one so they could show it pre-watershed.

"Forget you, corksocket!" and so on.

    I remember that with fondness.

Watched 1 and 2 this week, both are great in their own way.

    Watching 3 right now...

The fuck happened? It's like Eddie lost his soul.

I'm watching 3 too. it's oddly compelling, despite being a steaming great turd of a movie.

All I remember from it is a bunny suit.

First is ace and the second is reasonable fun.

    1st is great, & i thought the 2nd was a decent enough follow-up.
Part 3 is like a lame, direct to DVD sequel though, utter shite.

I quite liked Beverly Hills Cop 2. 3 was pretty bad though.

Yeah it's crap. The pace is too slow, it's padded with boring filler, the script is limp and the tone is all over the place. His boss dying should have had some emotional impact, but 2 seconds later there's a lame attempt at slapstick comedy as bits fall off his car during a chase.

The bigger mystery is what the fuck happened to Eddie Murphy.

I managed 20 minutes before it went from shit but okay as background tv, to offensive to my ears and eyes. A dreadful film

What's wrong with BHC3? It's a movie by John Landis after the eighties, the guy hasn't made a decent movie since Coming To America! Although to be fair to him Landis admitted the script was pretty poor to start with but giving Landis BHC was a huge mistake.

According to everyone on set of BHC3, Murphy was going through a pretty shit time of it by the time that film came round, and was determined to make BHC3 gritty and real. It was all Landis could do to get the performance he did out of him. Sure, I'd agree that overdoing the slapstick perhaps wasn't the ideal way to go about it, but I've watched and vaguely enjoyed BHC3 in my time.

I won't have a word said against Landis, by the way. Sure, BHC3, and Blues Bros 2000 are low points, but they're more than made up for by the original Blues Bros., American Werewolf in London, Trading Places, the aforementioned Coming To America and the Kentucky Fried Fucking Movie. The man will always have my respect.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

Don't forget Animal House. Landis ruled.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

That's true he was tailing off around that time and not long after BHC3 he went off to family movie hell.

Very true, but he was still absolute shite from the ninties onwards. Same thing happened to John Carpenter.

It was an accident, but he was very reckless. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter, but not convicted. That footage is horrible. You can see the helicopter blades hit them in the water, although thankfully not the 2 decapitations.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

To be fair though, John Carpenter was a bit shit before the nineties as well......

They Live was his last great film. That was 88.

(Starman and Carrie were the only sour notes before then - [Prince Of Darkness was so-so])
