Saw a grand total of 5 Christmas films over the weekend. I know, shoot me.

Die Hard - superb, much more Christmassy than some people on here have made out, including little nods to Christmas carols in the music, and the classic "corpse in a Santa hat" moment. 10/10

The Santa Clause - a hateful film which Mrs Popzeus inexplicably loves, despite the fact that Father Christmas dies right at the start and it's mainly about an acrimonious divorce. 4/10

The Santa Clause 2 - much better than the first one and actually quite watchable despite having Tim Allen in it. 7/10

Santa Claus The Movie - feels like two films stitched together, quite terrible in places but saved from being completely rubbish by John Lithgow putting in a good stint as a comedy baddie. 6/10

Elf - never tire of watching this, it would get a 10 from me even without the bit with Zoooooooey Dezchannel in the shower. Therefore 10.5/10

As for essential Christmas films, has anyone said Gremlins yet?

You're just showing off now aren't you? ;)

Give yourself £5 or ½ gig, you're worth it.

But, but, but, Die Hard has a guy wearing a Christmas hat with Ho Ho Ho written on his jumper! What is more Christmassy?

+1 for Elf, pretty special in that despite it being A) a Christmas film starring B) Will Ferrell and C) Zooey Deschanel (three things that I normally dislike), it's somehow fantastic

I don't like her voice, and also her whole kooky zany free spirit shit really starts to grate after a while (not in Elf, so that's an exception)

Yeah, the Manic Pixie Dream Girl shit is really awful, she seems to have huge appeal with the geeky/nerdy-type precisely because of it.

    This says it all really.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

I always hope Jason and the Argonauts is on but looks like I may have to do with Clash of the Titans.

Harryhausen = Christmas TV movie for me.

Elf is certainly the best modern Christmas film.

Elf was the first film my kid (I think she was about 4 or so) watched all the way through and she burst into tears when it finished. Captivated.

Similar to a post mentioned a few pages back, mine is Empire Strikes Back. The snowy Hoth scenes always remind me of Christmas and many mega happy memories from when I was a kid having loads of the toys on Christmas morning.

    Yeah, those two.
Elf has grown on me enormously. I hated it to begin with, but kind of got into it by the end. It's got better and better with subsequent viewings.

Gremlins tomo night. I think Empire tonight while we get started on the Lego winter village, which is to go under the tree.

Watched the second half of Elf on the Telly the other night. That got the Christmas feelings agitated. In a good way :)

Raiders will probably be the Christmas Day movie.

I have 3 favourites that get watched every Christmas eve:.....

Everybody seems to have it but I really like Christmas with the Kranks! Also the animated Christmas Carol movie with Jim Carrey. But my very favourite Xmas movie is Polar Express because more than other movie it captures that feeling of what it's like to believe in the magic of Christmas. Polar express watched on the floor in front of the TV after presents have been opened.

Also big shouts out to: Elf, Miracle on 34th street, Die Hard, National Lampoons, Gremlins.
