Slightly off topic, but I liked this google easter egg

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Then there's the Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, Children of Hurin...
  • Deleted user 21 December 2011 16:46:09
Tolkein only wrote the trilogy plus the Hobbit I think, all the rest came from other people. I've no real interest in the other non Tolkein related material.

I always liked his short stories too: Leaf by Niggle, Farmer Giles of Ham, and Smith of Wootton Major.

You're indicating it, yet you're not.
  • Deleted user 21 December 2011 17:01:57
Mainly because I'm unsure about the history of the franchise, I didn't know the existence of those short stories for one. I'm going to do some research before I read them.
  • Deleted user 21 December 2011 17:03:07
    Good plan

    I think it's cause you're talking bollocks.
  • Deleted user 21 December 2011 17:34:56
Yeah, you don't throw around stuff like 'I think he only wrote the first four' when you don't have anything to base that on.

I think the sun's hydrogen mass is 20 tonnes. PS I have never studied physics.
  • Deleted user 21 December 2011 17:45:43
Hence why I said "I think" I merely stated I never got around to reading the books, from there he started ridiculing me.

Out of order basically. Jesus Christ you cant say fuck all without some pretentious moron having a go. Best thing is it's only on the net this happens because in real life he'd get the shit kicked out of him for talking to people like that. Basic common decency and respect Crispy learn it.

Ironically, it's more pretentious to lay claim to knowledge you don't have than to correct someone when you do.

Trailer looks good. When there's that shot of the ring at the end I got goosebumps.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Yes! The three book format was enforced due to the high costs of printing at the time. One story, six volumes.

    @meme

When I bought the Lord of The rings books, they came in a collection of :

    The fellowship of the Ring
    The Two Towers
    The Return of the King
    The Hobbit.

Hence why I said 4 books, I didn't factor the Tolkein short stories and again correct me if wrong The Simmiaron was wrote by his great great grandson or some form of relation of his.
  • Deleted user 21 December 2011 18:04:01
Almost everything that came after his death was based off extensive notes and unpublished stories. Christopher Tolkien (his son) edited them into something publishable.

You are indeed wrong - he wrote it and his son did a piss-poor job of editing it.
